Quote from her nomination: “Kristin Tate has shown a passionate commitment to spreading conservative values and policies to the millennial generation.”

What was the biggest factor in your success?

I wouldn’t be where I am today without my parents. They taught my brother and me about history and government early on in our lives, which sparked my interest in politics at a young age. Having a positive support system at home was critical in giving me the courage to speak up for ideas that aren’t always popular among millennials.

What advice would you give to other millennials?

New media has made it easy to put ourselves in little echo chambers where we only see our own opinions repeated over and over. On the Internet it can be tempting to only visit news blogs that reflect our own views, or to simply delete Facebook friends who make annoying political posts. But don’t do it! I have friends who are conservatives, libertarians, liberals, and even anarchists. Surrounding myself with people who see the world differently than I do has allowed me to see the world through diverse lenses, to be more open-minded, and to learn new things. Plus, it just makes life more interesting!

Does the GOP have a future and why?

The Republican Party will likely be a lot more libertarian in the future. Millennials tend to embrace the “live and let live” philosophy. Preaching about abortion, locking up drug addicts, and gay marriage isn’t going to help the GOP attract young people. Looking forward, the party should focus on downsizing government when it comes to both fiscal AND social issues.
