What was the biggest factor in your success?

Principles. When you know what you believe in, and why, you can confidently react to any situation in the news (or, for that matter, in your life). I’m so fortunate to have a family that instilled these things in me, and to have had the opportunity to challenge and test my beliefs by studying ethics and culture at Georgetown. I did not get here alone.

For two years, I worked full-time while going to grad school and writing on the side. It was exhausting and so worth it. I learned to be relentless: Every time I’m on television or radio, or even writing a new piece, I’m trying to be sharper, wittier, more knowledgeable, and more interesting than I was yesterday.

What advice would you give to other Millennials?

This is especially for young conservatives: Own the facts, and don’t back down. There are people who will try to silence you at every turn — they’ll claim that the truth is offensive, and they’ll try to shout you down. Guess what? If you are accurate, gracious, and persistent, you will win every single time. While they’re hiding in their safe spaces, you’ll be the ones building the future.

That said, make sure to read things you disagree with and spend time with people who challenge you. Getting out of the echo chamber is so rewarding — and it only makes you stronger and more confident.

Does the GOP have a future, and why?

Everything that has revolutionized the Millennial world — SnapChat, Uber, Netflix, and so on — is entirely powered by the free market. If the GOP can make that case for conservative economic policies, then Millennials will flock to it. This is the most socially engaged and highly educated generation in history. We will not be won with gimmicks like the DAB or koozies or hashtags — we will be won by candidates and parties that treat us with respect.
