Why is it important that at this particular point in time, right-of-center youth become involved publicly, whether in politics, media, their communities, or another capacity?

Whether we like it or not, the political decisions made locally and in Washington are affecting our quality of life. Already, we’re seeing record levels of youth unemployment, and Millennials graduating from college and moving back in with their parents. For the first time in generations, there’s serious doubt about whether we’ll be better off than our parents.

What must elected officials and others in positions of leadership do to make a right-of-center message resonate with the Millennial generation?

The era of the press release is really, really over. I think elected officials — especially Republicans in Congress — are doing a good job of getting that point. Nearly every Republican in Congress is on Twitter and Facebook. Videos and design are taking a larger role in messaging. And core issues like youth unemployment, student loan debt, increasing innovation, and reforming government are messages that resonate well with this generation. Those need to be talked about and discussed openly.

Where would you like to see the conservative movement in 10 years — and how can it get there?

President Obama has failed our generation. He didn’t lead us out of a bad economy — he kept us in one. I think young conservatives need to recognize that the government they make ends at the polls, it doesn’t start there. Millenials have embraced innovation, change, technology, and the idea that there is a better way to do things. I hope we don’t sit on the sidelines any longer and aren’t content to let our government only get things half right.
