If you want to know who’s who in the D.C. conservative movement, Shoshana Weissmann is the girl to ask.

Weissmann is responsible for launching “Network Red,” a website devoted to connecting young Republicans with internships, jobs, volunteer opportunities, events, organizations and more. “Network Red” was originally a simple listserv with job information, but Weissmann soon realized she needed to expand its focus.

“I decided that the most efficient way to update people about campaign events and volunteering opportunities was through a listserv, which I formed back in September 2012. People liked it and asked me to tack on more things – internships, resumes, events, etc,” she told Red Alert Politics.

Pretty soon the project outgrew its original format, and Weissmann and the email group’s co-founder, Elie Litvin, created the “Network Red” website.

Nonetheless, Weissmann – who realized she was a Republican at the mere age of 8 – still believes the GOP needs to do more to attract young people to the movement.

“The Republican Party should get better at reaching out directly to the people,” she said. “That’s why I started my organization – to allow people to connect directly to opportunities to get involved.

“There are so many talented conservatives out there, and all that talent is wasted if we can’t find a way to use it,” Weissmann added.

The 20-year-old student, who is graduating from George Washington University in just two-and-a-half years this winter, has already learned a thing or two about how to stand out in the conservative crowd.

“Stay true to your values, but don’t be stubborn either. It’s important to have principles, but you should also be able to keep an open mind to new information,” she said.
