Guy Benson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable young conservatives in America. As Political Editor of Townhall.com and a contributor to its sister site, HotAir.com, his articles are consumed by millions of readers each day.

“The capacity to make a difference in average people’s hearts and minds, as well as in D.C.’s corridors of power—that’s something that gets me up in the morning,” he said.

Benson also hosts a radio show on WIND-AM in Chicago and WWRC in Washington, D.C. and is a regular substitute host of The Hugh Hewitt Show, speaking about the conservative movement. Benson said he wished his peers would be more inclusive and accepting of those who disagree with the mainstream of the movement.

“We shouldn’t be afraid to have these discussions, and we shouldn’t be too quick to excommunicate people,” he told Red Alert Politics. “Dividing and subtracting from the movement isn’t getting us anywhere.”

Benson said he strongly believes young conservatives today need to take the lead when it comes to growing and advancing the cause.

“A political movement that remains in place for too long tends to atrophy and expire. We have an opportunity to put our own imprint on what it means to be a conservative in America,” Benson said.

The radio host said he also wants to see the GOP try harder to break through to Millennials.

“I don’t think young people reject conservative values wholesale,” he said. “They just have a skewed view of what conservatism is.

“[T]he best way to dispel false ideas about conservatives isn’t to tell people they’re wrong — it’s to show them the truth.”
