Cristina Gonzalez was perhaps destined to become a conservative all-star.

As far back as she can remember, the first-generation Cuban American would watch and discuss the evening news with her father, who instilled conservative values and a special respect for the freedoms Americans uniquely enjoy in his daughter

“Like many Cubans out there, I’ve always had an immense appreciation for freedom,” she told Red Alert Politics.

Today, she is making a name for herself in the world of conservative talk radio. Gonzalez served as a producer for nationally syndicated radio host Neal Boortz before he retired earlier this year and currently works as a producer for both Erick Erickson’s and Sean Hannity’s radio shows.

“Working in talk radio was completely by chance,” Gonzalez said.

“I was writing about politics when I was in school [at New York University] and due to a series of random coincidences, Neal Boortz started to read my writing and asked me if I would be an intern after my junior year,” she said. “By the time I graduated, I was a full-time content producer and writer for Boortz.com.”

Gonzalez said she thinks more college students would gravitate toward conservatism if the Republican Party didn’t spend so much time infighting and instead focused on issues that actually affect young people such as the national debt.

“Instead of yelling at each other, we need to talk to each other,” she noted.

She also advised young conservatives to avoid letting others define who they are.

“If you have the facts on your side and are willing to discuss the issues, you can’t go wrong.”
