Having grown up as the child of a teenage mother in a single-parent home, Chelsi Henry saw first-hand the fiscal restraint her mother had to maintain in order to provide for her children.

As a result, Henry has a distinct awareness of the importance of individual responsibility.

“From a fiscal perspective, I understand how every dollar counts,” Henry told Red Alert Politics. “Me and my family had to learn how to live off a budget, and I believe the federal government should as well.”

Henry graduated debt-free from the University of North Florida in 2009. Besides a strong commitment to living within her means, Henry attributes this accomplishment to a generous private donor who provided her with a full-ride to college.

“Just another example of how I did not need the government’s assistance to feed my dreams,” Henry stated.

She currently serves as a Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor in Jacksonville and as the Outreach Chair for the Young Republican National Federation. In 2012, the 25-year-old was the youngest Florida delegate at the Republican National Convention.

During the last election cycle, Henry had the opportunity to share her personal story on Seventeen Magazine’s “Electionista Blog.”  In the post, she explained how her mother’s situation shaped her position on abortion.

“The opportunity was there for her to abort me, but she chose life,” Henry recalled.

On top of her political feats, Henry also attained a law degree from the Florida Coastal School of Law, where she graduated from in May. The black conservative intends to use her degree to aid her community.

“What would give me most pleasure is being able to represent other people who can’t represent themselves, and I see myself being able to do that not just through politics but through law,” she said.
