Elizabeth Santorum, daughter of former U.S. Presidential candidate Rick Santorum, says her involvement with the conservative movement began as an infant.

“You know, in diapers really,” Santorum said. “I was doing parades, and throwing candy, and running around the office with crayons in my hands, barefoot, from the time I was little.”

Santorum has certainly accomplished a great deal in a short time through her activism, as not many college students carry the distinction of having been a national surrogate for a U.S. presidential candidate. She will return as a student this fall at University of Dallas, from which she recently took a year off to work on her father’s presidential campaign.

When asked about life on the campaign trail, she fondly recalls the grassroots nature of her father’s campaign, and the role she played in helping him run for office.

“It was very home grown, and I loved that,” Santorum said. “I was 20 years old, and I had a role that was quite significant.”

Santorum said she believes the country needs another Reagan Revolution to inspire young people to care about the future of our country again. American youth today should be concerned about not only financial issues, but moral ones, as well, she said.

“You know, we’re talking about abortion, the moral structure and fabric of our country,” she said. “Are we leaving a better country for the next generation, in terms of our moral compass?”
