Euthanasia barely escapes legalization in Massachusetts

It’s the ballot measure that no one is talking about, but it may be the best news of Tuesday’s election.

Massachusetts nearly joined Washington, Montana and Oregon in legalizing doctor-assisted suicide, or a form of euthanasia which allows doctors to administer lethal doses of medication to patients with terminal illnesses and with less than six months of projected life expectancy.

In a very tight race, supporters of the ballot measure conceded defeat Wednesday morning after they fell slightly behind the opponents with 94 percent of the vote counted.

Catholic colleges launch year of Faith

Catholic colleges across the country are celebrating a year-long observance of the “Year of Faith,” according to the call of Pope Benedict XVI from the Vatican in Rome.

The year, which began October 2012 and will run through November 2013, is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the 30th anniversary of the publishing of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

While this Catholic initiative is world-wide, it has a particular significance for American Catholics because of the American Church’s fight for religious liberty during the past year over the Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate which would require Catholic schools and hospitals to offer free contraception and abortion services despite the fact the the Church expressly forbids the use of either.

Biden on Letterman: Top ten good things about voting early

As if Vice President Joe Biden has not found himself in the news enough lately, he still appeared with David Letterman on the Tonight Show Wednesday night reading Letterman’s “Top ten good things about voting early.”

Biden’s spiel included jokes about his own inaccuracies, goofy talking points and of course, “malarky.”

Here is the complete list:

Students for Obama website becomes Students ‘no longer’ for Obama

The grassroots group Let Freedom Ring (LFR) owns the domain for studentsforobama.org and is using it as a last minute push to lead student voters away from President Barack Obama in the week leading up to the election.

Clemson University student John Paul Cassil sequestered the website from the Obama campaign in early October, by buying up the domain before Obama’s campaign was able to get to it.

He is now working as an activist with LFR to convince college students that Obama does not have their best interests at heart.

Obama resorts to DMing twitter followers asking for votes

Several people in the twittesphere reported that President Barack Obama had sent them a direct twitter message asking for their support and votes in the upcoming election, according to Mashable.

“Use your Twitter influence to help get out the vote,” one Obama tweet sent from Obama2012 read. “Follow, re-tweet @Obama2012 and join the team.”

The direct messages sent receivers to a website where they could register their Twitter account with the Obama team.

Biden: Romney’s ‘new best buddy is Putin’

Vice President Joe Biden told the audience at a rally in Ocala, Fl. Wednesday that Mitt Romney and Russian president Vladmir Putin are “buddies,” according to POLITICO.

He made the comment in the context of talking about what he calls Romney’s flip-flips on Russia.

Biden said Romney went from labeling Russia our most significant geopolitical foe, “who up until recently he called the Soviet Union” he joked, to finding a new best buddy in Putin.

VIDEO: Hidden cam catches kids’ reactions as their Halloween candy is redistributed Obama-style

Fox News contributor Steven Crowder decided he would see how well children would take President Barack Obama’s redistribution of wealth idea when it was applied to their Halloween candy.

He went to a trick-or-treat tailgate and had children line up after they had collected their candy and Crowder redistributed it so that every child would have an equal amount.

Sure enough, they weren’t too thrilled.
