Pro-life movement thrives despite GOP’s history of social surrender

Effective political movements can transform conventional wisdom and seemingly immutable moral principles over time, turning once controversial and extreme ideas into common sense accepted by all good people.

Conservatism has somehow found a way to reverse this formula, waging a slow motion retreat over a period of decades and clinging to an abstract creed of “values” that changes over time.

Andrew Breitbart: Culture Warrior

Andrew Breitbart was not a typical culture warrior in the mold of Rick Santorum, Pat Buchanan, or Pat Robertson. A Los Angeles native raised in a largely secular Jewish household, former board member of GOProud, and former web producer at E! Online, he was a pop culture aficionado unafraid to let fly with the occasional expletive. It’s tempting to point to him as a model for the social media virtuosos and modern, culture savvy commentators in the Beltway Right. The truth is that Andrew Breitbart was a reactionary culture warrior and I mean that in the best possible sense.

Breitbart spoke about his foe as “Cultural Marxism,” a curious term for those more familiar with “liberalism” or “statism.” He gave a valuable insight into his politics when he tweeted just before the New Year that “These 2 videos – as funky & dated as they are – explain crux of my argument against The Left.” He then linked to positively ancient videos by the once prominent Free Congress Foundation detailing a program of cultural subversion by “The Frankfurt School,” an intellectual grouping which saw American culture as inherently racist, sexist, and authoritarian.

5 Reasons to Vote FOR Ron Paul in the GOP Primary

Many of Ron Paul’s followers are seen as obnoxious and disruptive. Many aren’t social conservatives, have little loyalty to the Republican Party apart from their candidate, and have stances on issues like drug legalization, marriage, and foreign policy antithetical to what many conservatives believe. None of this changes the fact that Ron Paul should be the party’s choice for November.

#TCOT Tuesday: James O’Keefe (@JamesOKeefeIII)

James O’Keefe is always creating headlines, most recently filing suit against Al Gore’s Current TV, Keith Olbermann and David Shuster. Shuster of course is a respected, award winning television journalist (unlike O’Keefe) and thought it was hilarious to falsely label O’Keefe a convicted felon who had been accused of rape. O’Keefe’s willingness to counterattack and his frankly confrontational take on the “fascist” media has made him a figure of loathing on the Left, while even frightening some conservatives that shy away from his adversarial tactics.

Lost in the caricature is what James O’Keefe is really all about. Reluctant to label himself a right-winger, he considers himself an “artist” more in the spirit of the Old Left. His motivation is to “stick it to the man, expose things, educate people,“ and most of all, “reveal the truth about powerful institutions.”

Is Obama trying to fundamentally change America?

Barack Obama is not a typical Democrat. He doesn’t want to redistribute wealth, or achieve social justice, or simply expand government. He wants to fundamentally realign America.

Dinesh D’Souza gave a bracing speech Saturday morning at CPAC about the real motivations of President Barack Obama and his “anti-colonial” ideology. He suggested that the President is pursuing a radical agenda that has its roots in his father’s political action in Kenya.

Rules for Radicals

Most conservatives seem to view Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals as a kind of secret handbook for President Barack Obama’s dark conspiracy to destroy America. Talk radio hosts bemoan “Alinskyite” tactics, conservative intellectuals write a never ending serious of columns and books “exposing” the American radical, and Newt Gingrich seems to have put opposing Saul Alinsky at the center of his campaign.
