Since When Did (Fill in the Blank) Become the Government’s Job?

We are told that America’s debt is standing at $15 trillion. The truth is that is that is just a portion of our rapidly increasing debt. Many people do not know that America’s total debt stands at $57 trillion dollars. This “total debt” consists of America’s “unfunded liabilities,” in other words, government run programs.

Adding these two numbers together, America has a total of $72 trillion worth of obligations that we either own to foreign countries or to our own people, or that we simply have not yet set aside. To put this amount of money in perspective, if you were to add up one trillion seconds it would be equivalent to 32,000 years. That would make 72 trillion seconds equivalent to 2,304,000 years.

With this flabbergasting statistic in mind, the question arises: Why is the government in so much debt? The answer partially seems to be because the American mindset has become “the government owes us everything.”

But does it?

Is My Bill Constitutional? Members of Congress Couldn’t Care Less

On March 22, 2012, U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) stated on the floor of the House of Representatives that the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. ObamaCare) grants Americans the right to a “healthy life” and the “liberty to pursue happiness.” Pelosi implies that ObamaCare is valid because it abides by…The Declaration of Independence. With comments such as these, it is not a surprise that Congress’ approval rating is 12%.

The Battle for America’s Energy Future: Oil vs. Algae

The answer to our current economic and energy crisis is not to turn our backs on our own natural resources and scramble to find the best alternative energy option. This has resulted only in electric cars that run out of battery or catch on fire in the middle of the Interstate.

In order to prevent gas prices from climbing to infinity and beyond while still having no alternative energy plan, a better option is to put our abounding natural resources to use and research alternative energy on the side.
