Late night comic Jimmy Kimmel, who rarely takes time out of his monologue to address serious matters, vented his frustrations with Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) for “lying” about his health care bill intended to replace the Affordable Care Act.

On Tuesday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the late night host, whose son, Billy, was born earlier this year with congenital heart disease and required heart surgery, didn’t hold back calling the Graham-Cassidy bill a “scam” and how Cassidy “wasn’t very honest” when he was a guest on his show in May.

“I don’t know what happened to Bill Cassidy,” Kimmel said. “But when he was on this publicity tour, he listed his demands for a health-care bill very clearly. These were his words. He said he wants coverage for all, no discrimination based on pre-existing conditions, lower premiums for middle-class families and no lifetime caps. Guess what? The new bill does none of those things.”

Cassidy invented what he called the “Jimmy Kimmel test” that would ensure his health care replacement bill would provide coverage for families and not have annual or lifetime caps for insured individuals with pre-existing conditions, like being born with congenital heart disease.

“This new bill actually does pass the Jimmy Kimmel test, but a different Jimmy Kimmel test. With this one, your child with a preexisting condition will get the care he needs — if, and only if, his father is Jimmy Kimmel. Otherwise, you might be screwed,” Kimmel explained.

He continued. “Bill Cassidy just lied right to my face.”

On Wednesday morning, Cassidy responded to Kimmel’s accusation, saying, “I’m sorry he does not understand.”

“States like Maine, Virginia, Florida, Missouri — there’ll be billions more dollars to provide health insurance coverage for those in those states that have been passed by ObamaCare,” Cassidy explained. “And we protect those with preexisting conditions.”
