On Friday, Politico reported that the Department of Homeland Security formally classified the activities of the leftist extremist group, Antifa, as “domestic terrorist violence.”

In the report, federal authorities have been warning state and local officials about the violent and confrontational nature of Antifa since early 2016.

DHS Spokesman David Lapan told Red Alert Politics in an email that they cannot comment on the report, but would not go as far as to fully deny it.

“The report cited is For Official Use Only so we’re not releasing it and we can’t comment on the specific content,” Lapan stated. “However, DHS is concerned with extremism on any part of the ideological spectrum when it turns violent or threatening. We are actively engaged in reaching out to state and local stakeholders to provide analysis and warning regarding violent extremist activity that might put people in danger.”

Through interviews and obtaining confidential law enforcement documents in the Politico report, Antifa was simply labeled as “anarchist extremists.” They were the primary instigators of violence at public rallies and targeted “the police, government and political institutions, along with symbols of “the capitalist system,” racism, social injustice and fascism.”

After Donald Trump was elected president, Antifa began exclusively targeting his supporters. Before the violence that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia between white supremacists and Antifa in August that left 35-year-old Heather Heyer dead at the hands of a white supremacist, Antifa targeted Trump supporters and conservatives in Berkeley, California, where commentators like Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter were shut down. At Trump’s Inauguration in Washington, DC, Antifa smashed windows of local businesses and torched the limousine belonging to a Pakistani Muslim immigrant as well as injuring the driver.

After Charlottesville, Antifa has rallied around shutting down any pro-Trump rally. In Boston, thousands of counter-protesters swarmed a “white supremacist” rally that wasn’t white supremacist at all. However, that didn’t stop Antifa from beating up Trump supporters and clashing with police where they were even throwing bottles of urine at them. In late August, Trump supporters and journalists were assaulted by members of Antifa in Berkeley.

In the past week, both House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and liberal comedians like Trevor Noah from The Daily Show have condemned Antifa for their actions. Noah even dubbed them as “Vegan ISIS.”
