Did Taylor Swift vote for President Trump?

On Thursday night, millennial music icon Taylor Swift dropped her latest single “Look What You Made Me Do” to tease her new album coming out later this year titled “Reputation,” and the internet is obsessed with the thought that she may have voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election.

While some are speculating that the lyrics to her new song is addressing her longstanding feud with Kanye West, it appears that folks on the Internet are more concerned about where she stands on Trump.

Swift has largely remained apolitical throughout her career. However, due to the fact that many liberals and progressives believe that silence equates to complicity, many feel that Swift is secretly a Trump supporter.

In light of Swift’s announcement, we’re already witnessing bloggers demand she condemn Trump with articles like Junkee’s “If Taylor Swift Wants To Address Her Bad Reputation, She Should Start By Condemning Donald Trump.”

Others see Swift’s album cover for her new album as a direct attack at publications like the New York Times, which is a similar tactic used by Trump when negative stories are published about his administration.

And, of course, one cannot talk about the 2016 election without mentioning the rivalry between Swift and her archnemesis Katy Perry, who famously stumped for Hillary Clinton.

Singer Father John Misty has a theory that their feud was the reason Donald Trump won the presidency.

“I have a theory that Donald Trump won the election because of Katy and Taylor’s beef,” Misty told Sydney’s FBi radio earlier this year. “She’s become a bit of a pop culture pariah. I think it’s because she didn’t stump for Hillary. But you know her folks — like, her Dad’s a hedge fund manager — there’s no way her folks are Hillary people.”

Until Swift actually admits who she voted for, this is all just speculation. But even if she did cast a ballot for Trump in 2016 and then comes forward with her support, will her fans, who loathe him, be willing to take that sucker punch and continue vibing to her tunes? For Swift, it appears to be too big of a risk to take.
