While many on the left predicted a severe drop in the enrollment of international students during the Trump Presidency, new data released this past week on college enrollment indicates that Trump-era regulations have had little impact on international student enrollment at college and universities in the United States.
According to new research by the IIE Center for Academic Mobility Research and Impact, international students are still interested in attending U.S. institutions at similar rates to last year.
Among all colleges and universities, the yield rate of international students dropped from 26 percent in 2016 to 24 percent for the fall 2017 semester. Additionally, a significant number of those declines were from students in Master’s programs, which tend to be ever increasing in price (most in the $50,000+ range).
The most intriguing aspect of the study however, was the issue of affordability among students. Of the students from certain regions of the world, including, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, Canada, Oceania, Latin America, and Asia (excluding China and India), those polled ranked affordability as the highest concern when considering whether or not to attend college in the United States.
Despite endless alarmism and furious outcry by liberals, the willingness of international students to study in the United States has not changed under the new rules adapted by the Trump Administration. On the contrary, large numbers of international students are continuing to pursue degrees in the United States, but an increasing number are beginning to wise up to the high costs of both a degree and student loans.
Liberals love to smear conservative education policies as racist. Whether it is President Trump’s new immigration regulations designed to keep our country safe or Betsy Devos’ plan to expand school choice to children in need, liberals will stop at nothing to use race as an argument against Republicans.
Fortunately for America, the era of race baiting politics appears to be having little effect on the current voting electorate or American policies. As American’s return to a time of industrial independence, foreign students continue to pledge their talents to America in return for the finest education available, and liberals are yet again proven wrong about the Trump Presidency.
