After decades of kicking ass in the wrestling and Hollywood blockbuster arenas, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just wants to revel in his success. However, a lot of Americans prefer he kick ass in the political arena and defeat Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
It’s been rumored since Trump won the election more than six months ago that Johnson would be the next celebrity to flirt with a run for the Oval Office.
On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night, Johnson addressed those rumors, especially after GQ magazine did a profile on him about a possible run.
“The surge and the groundswell since [that interview] has really been amazing,” Johnson said, while admitting how flattered he was about a PPP poll showing that he would beat Trump in a head-to-head matchup, 42 to 37 percent, if the election were held today. He also has a favorable rating with Democrats and Republicans.
He had a guess for why that is. “I think it’s because a lot of people want a different leadership today, or, I’m sorry, not different, but a better leadership today. More poise, less noise.”
The Rock also thinks that he’s become quite relatable to the average American having to wake up early in the morning for work and take care of his family just like everyone else.
He concluded. “Three-and-a-half years is a long way away, so we’ll see.”
