Ever since he was named to lead Donald Trump’s campaign in the waning months of the presidential election, Stephen Bannon has been the target of hit pieces and attacks from the media that paint him as a racist, anti-Semite, and white supremacist.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Kwatinetz, his former business partner in Hollywood, says all of those allegations could not be further from the truth despite the fact that he doesn’t agree with Bannon’s politics.
“I know that he’s not anti-Semitic. I am absolutely positive that he’s not anti-Semitic or racist. It is absurd,” Kwatinetz said, noting that he is Jewish, as well people who Bannon also worked with like Roy Furman and Andrew Breitbart.
Bannon worked with Kwatinetz at The Firm for two years in 2002 and 2003. During that time, Kwatinetz recalls that he wasn’t sure when he learned of his politics, but said that he employed and worked with people from all around the political spectrum.
“As a liberal, I don’t judge people on their politics, I judge them on their character, and from what I knew then and what I know now, Steve has great character,” he said.
When asked if it was dangerous for his career to defend Bannon, Kwatinetz said, “It’s dangerous because people want to believe what they’ve been told to believe. I’m telling you that the guy is a good person. I know it. And if it hurts my career to tell the truth about someone, then I guess it’s going to have to hurt my career, because he is a good person.”
