Donald Trump could spell the end for the Kardashians

As the country (and the rest of the world) has been glued to their television and phones to watch the events unfold at the White House under President Trump, the biggest loser is probably the one furthest away from politics: the Kardashians.

The first family of reality TV aired its season 13 premiere of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” on E! on March 12th, and the ratings have been less than stellar. Its March 12th episode brought in a 1.48 rating, making it one of the series’ least watched season premieres in the show’s run since 2008.

If Kim & co. are looking to point the finger, better point it at Washington. In the four months since Trump was elected and two months since he’s been in office, all eyes have been on the former Apprentice star. From his press conferences in which he rips the media a new one to his Twitter habits blowing up the internet, Donald Trump has essentially sucked all the oxygen out of the room for reality TV stars trying to give people an escape from politics.

Trump and the media have successfully managed to create more drama in Washington, and there’s not a single thing Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie, Kendall, and Kris can do about it.

As the Huffington Post‘s Stephanie Marcus puts it, America’s attention isn’t large enough to fit both Trump and the Kardashians. For example, Marcus writes “with rumblings that White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus are at war with one another for control, is there any room to mull over whether or not Kim invited Blac Chyna to a baby shower?”

Apparently not. And while the Kardashians have used social media to post nude selfies or beachside bikini photos, it appears the American people are over it.

Kim has used social media to even get political and slam President Trump over the first travel ban issued in January with this tweet.

Comedian Dave Chappelle said that when comedians “talk about [Trump], it’s almost like you’re part of the chorus and not a soloist.”

The same applies here for virtually any celebrity. If the Kardashians go political, it wouldn’t save their ratings. It would only accelerate their declining relevancy.

At this juncture, if their poor ratings continue, their show could be in jeopardy.

So, whether or not you’re a Trump supporter, if you cannot stand the Kardashians, you can at least tip your hat to the President and say “Thank you for making America great again.”
