Where’s the feminist outrage? Bow Wow’s sexist tweet about Melania Trump

Strangely enough, there is a bit of a feud between two rappers who were popular 20 years ago and President Donald Trump. This oddity began when Snoop Dogg released a video for his remix of the song ‘Lavender,’ which was originally a track from the band BadBadNotGood.

Trump condemned the video in which a clown named Ronald Klump was assassinated. Trump took to Twitter to express his distaste, tweeting “Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!” However, this is not the biggest shock.

Bow Wow came to the defense of Snoop Dogg with an incredibly vulgar tweet, which has since been deleted. The deleted tweet said, “Ayo @RealDonaldTrump shut your punk a*s up, talking shit about my uncle @SnoopDogg before we pimp your wife and make her work for us.”

The most shocking part of this whole encounter was the fact that feminists did not come to the defense of the First Lady, and frankly, the silence of the feminist movement was rather deafening.

By refusing to condemn a violent and vulgar threat against an innocent women based on politics alone, the leaders of this movement and company have shown their true colors as nothing less than petty hypocrites.

Feminism is supposed to represent all women. With intersectional feminism on the rise, which Alia E. Dastagir described as an “understanding of how women’s overlapping identities — including race, class, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation — impact the way they experience oppression and discrimination” in her January 2017 USA Today article. By not including Melania Trump in this feminist discourse as she is quite literally being discriminated against on the basis of her sex and political affiliations, intersectional feminists are violating the principles of their own ideals and values.

This isn’t the first time conservative and Republican women have been excluded from the feminist narrative, from Ivanka Trump’s fashion line being boycotted despite her constant championship of women’s causes to the refusal to acknowledge Kellyanne Conway’s work ethic and achievements. Right-leaning women commonly face attacks on social media outlets, as evidenced by Tomi Lahren and most recently, Antonia Okafor. These attacks play on anything possible, from superficial things like hair and clothing to vicious and visceral comments about being a “race traitor”.

Feminism claims to be a movement of inclusion, yet I and other women targeted by so-called feminists and excluded from feminist narrative. The silence from feminists speaks volumes in this scenario, a refusal to defend a woman from proposed sexual violence based on politics alone has exposed the truth about the movement, and it’s that only women who agree with the liberal narrative, totally and completely, are welcome. Feminism isn’t about the protection of women any longer, it’s about the protection of the Left.
