Late night host Stephen Colbert has been on a hitting streak in 2017. He’s been number one in overall ratings beating previous late night king Jimmy Fallon for six straight weeks.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s ratings have largely come in part from his political commentary and comedy, something that Fallon has largely refrained from. However, now, it’s forcing Fallon’s program to steer towards the anti-Trump direction.

While Colbert hasn’t been kind to President Trump or his administration, he can certainly can dish it to liberals too, particularly MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

On Tuesday night, Maddow has a 20-minute wind up to explain two pages of Donald Trump’s leaked 2005 1040 tax return. While she was trying to grasp at straws, the tax return actually made Trump look better than many had predicted. He paid $38 million in federal income tax while taking in $153 million, equating to paying a 25.3 percent tax rate.

Colbert decided to have fun with this horribly hyped up reveal by doing his best Maddow impression and explain a joke as old as time: “Why did the chicken cross the road?”
