Saturday Night Live has had a couple of great comic sketches mocking the Trump administration. The first few Alec Baldwin appearances were fantastic, and Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer was brilliant. But, their Ivanka parody fell flat.

The sketch on Saturday was a commercial for Ivanka’s new perfume “Complicit” for the powerful feminist who could stop her father but won’t.

Comedy is great when it’s based on the truth, which is why this sketch bombs royally. Scarlett Johansson portrays the First Daughter as a socially awkward woman with a crooked smile.

“A feminist, an advocate, a champion for women, but like how?” the voice over says. “I bet when she watches Titanic she thinks she’s Rose, sorry girl you’re Billy Zane.”

In reality, Ivanka is one of the most moderating voices with the President’s ear. Liberals are worried about climate change, and Ivanka is the voice in opposition of pulling out of the Paris Climate Treaty. Women want more access to child care, and Ivanka is meeting with Senators to try and draft a $500 billion child care bill. Progressives want to protect gay rights, and Ivanka killed anti-LGBT order being drafted by some in the administration.

Acting as though she’s complicit in anything her father’s administration wants to do is a disservice to the most powerful First Daughter in the modern presidency — and worst still, it’s just not funny.
