Thursday marked the 20th anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G., the legendary rapper who was shot and killed on March 9th, 1997 at the age of 24.
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) represents the district where Biggie (born Christopher Wallace) grew up (i.e. Brooklyn). Jeffries went onto the House floor to honor the legacy of Wallace by reciting some of the lyrics to the 1994 hit “Juicy,” which highlights his rags-to-riches story.
“We know he went from negative to positive and emerged as one of the world most important hip hop stars,” Jeffries said. “His rags-to-riches life story is the classic embodiment of the American dream. Biggie Smalls is gone but he will never be forgotten. Rest in piece Notorious B.I.G.. Where Brooklyn at?”
