President Trump signed two bills on Tuesday promoting women in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math), as part of his initiative to protect American workers.
The President thanked the bill’s main sponsor Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) and said that he hoped the new law would spur an increase in women being employed in the STEM field.
“Currently only one-in-four women who gets a STEM degree is working in a STEM job, which is not fair and it’s not even smart for the people who aren’t taking advantage of it,” Trump said. “It’s unacceptable we have so many American women who have these degrees but yet are not being employed in these fields.”
“Protecting women with STEM degrees and all Americans with STEM degrees is very important but it also means you have to crack down on off-shoring because it’s a tremendous problem that displaces many of our best American workers.”
