New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been dogged in the last year and a half over his friendship with President Donald Trump. Now, Tim Tebow is coming to his defense.
The four-time Super Bowl winning and three-time Super Bowl MVP hasn’t been very outspoken about politics, but said it would be “great” if Trump were president. Brady even had a Make America Great Again hat in his locker when Trump was a candidate.
“Just let [Brady] get ready for the Super Bowl. He’s probably going to go down as the best quarterback of all-time. He doesn’t need to focus on anything else but trying to win a Super Bowl right now,” Tebow told Fox & Friends in Houston, Texas on Friday.
In an interview with USA Today on Tuesday, Brady said, “If people want to take sides, you know, they can obviously do that. It’s everyone’s right. They have a right to do that.”
He continued. “And I have a right to stay out of it, too. I want to keep my focus on where it should be for me at this moment. I’m trying to be the best that I can be for my team. And I don’t want to bring any distractions to our team. I don’t want to bring any negativity to our team. We have enough of that as it is.”
The day before the election, Trump unveiled to a packed crowd of supporters in New Hampshire that he had been endorsed by Brady and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
Patriots fans who didn’t support Donald Trump are conflicted, even some have written that it’s harder now to root for Brady because of his friendship with Trump.
To those who feel this way, just let Brady ride out the rest of his career. He’s 39 years old. You only get a few more years to witness him tear up defenses on the gridiron before he hangs up his pads. Let the man live and try to win a Super Bowl against a formidable opponent in the Atlanta Falcons.
