Last Friday, President Trump’s installation of temporary travel restrictions sparked accusations of xenophobia. Most of the criticism has been unwarranted due to the fact that similar precautions have been implemented in the past by Democrats and Obama administration.

President Trump’s restrictions, unfortunately, may include those with visas (the White House says it excludes green card holders). The Department of Homeland Security has an unclarified definition of what Trump’s office has asserted. However, DHS still holds the authority to waive Trump’s order on a case-by-case basis.

As much as the mainstream media is attempting to advocate for those affected by the restrictions, they are exacerbating the confusion.

The restrictions are not ‘unprecedented.’ Jimmy Carter enforced similar travel restrictions in 1980 during a hostage crisis with Iran. Carter went as far as to completely cancel visas. The mainstream media want to assert that Trump is not isolating the singular problem well enough. Whether they are will to admit it or not, radical Islamic terror is the singular issue.

The seven Muslim countries that President Trump selected for restrictions came from the Obama administration. Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Iraq, and Iran came from a larger list comprising 30 other countries that were presented in a bill that Barack Obama signed into law in 2015. The Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act had 93 cosponsors that included both Republicans and Democrats.

The restrictions prioritize those fleeing multiple classifications persecution. President Trump did state in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network that he would prioritize those facing Christian persecution, but the restrictions are more open than presented. The mainstream media and the diplomats in the Middle East attempt to frame this as discrimination is a failure.

Those in the Middle East are now looking to manipulate the public to believe that President Trump’s action will provoke terror is direct threat. They have chosen to use Trump as shame card against the American people. This is no different than a mobster telling a victim, “I won’t hit with a bat, but my friend, Vinny, here will.”

Liberals enthusiastically affirm that Barack Obama ‘inherited a mess’ from George W. Bush. The same can now be inferred for President Trump. Barack Obama decided to vacate the Middle East, leaving Iraq and Libya extremely unstable. The media used political correctness to minimize the effects of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry’s failed diplomatic policies. They all ignored the disastrous events that led rise of the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS in the region.

So long as the media continues to frame President Trump a discriminatory authoritarian, the public in trust them less in an increasing fashion. Their attempts to edit vital information will discredit them even more.
