Most of Donald Trump’s cabinet picks haven’t been well received by millennials. They have a generally negative opinion about all of them except General James “Mad Dog” Mattis.
In an Economist/YouGov poll published on Thursday, Mattis was the only cabinet nominee with more support among millennials than a lack thereof. A plurality of young Americans had a favorable opinion of the General, 28 percent to 22 percent having a negative. Nearly half of the respondents had no opinion of him.
Among all Americans, Mattis has a favorable rating of 42 percent compared to a 17 percent unfavorable rating.
Even though 22 percent of millennials had a negative opinion of Mattis, only 17 percent believed he wasn’t qualified for the job. A total of 35 percent believed he had the qualifications for the position and 46 percent had no opinion.
More Americans, 50 percent, thought he was qualified to just 13 percent who believed he wasn’t.
Undoubtedly, Mattis’ military experience can be attributed to people’s opinion about him. However, it’s possible that Internet memes have also made him more well known and liked among millennials.
