Despite liberal claims that Donald Trump is planning to assault gay rights, the President tapped a former LGBTQ clinic director to advise him on healthcare policy.
Trump hired former Whitman-Walker Clinic associate director Katy French Talento as his White House health policy adviser on January 5th, as reported by The Washington Blade.
Whitman-Walker Clinic is a well-respected LGBT healthcare facility, which has employed Talento from 1998 to 2000. Since then, she has advised five U.S. Senators and two U.S. Senate Committees on healthcare policy from public health to HIV/AIDS treatment and research.
In 2013, she became vice president of a company that provides protection from malaria for energy workers in Africa and Asia.
Hardly the greedy capitalist that the media has spun all of Trump’s other appointments. Former Whitman-Walker Associate Executive Director Patricia Hawkins, an outspoken lesbian, said to the Washington Blade that Talento works well with people regardless of their political leanings because her Christian faith helps her to serve others and she doesn’t have any bigotry or homophobia.
It looks like Trump’s critics who said he doesn’t care about gay people or women will have to work pretty hard to spin this choice.
