Dear Hollywood: Stop making political videos, no one cares

Albert Einstein defined insanity by trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Under those conditions, Hollywood celebrities are insane for thinking they can still stop Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, another group of Hollywood actors including Rosie Perez, Sally Field, Jeffrey Wright, and Steve Buscemi released a new political video titled #StandUpForUs where they try to convince Congress to fight the Trump agenda.

“We demand that you block nominees who threaten the rights of women, the LGBT community, people of color, immigrants and the poor,” Field said in the video.

In 2016, there were more political celebrity videos than there were spin-offs of Law & Order and none of them mattered.

No one cared when Martin Sheen, Debra Messing, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, James Franco, Julianne Moore, Don Cheadle, Neil Patrick Harris,  Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jane Lynch, Elizabeth Banks, Moby, Adam Scott, Patti LuPone, or Amber Rose made their video.

It’s not because Americans didn’t love their movies, music, or T.V. shows, but it doesn’t translate to excited people that you share the same values, interests, or policies.

Actors and singers treat voters like cigarette companies used naive consumers by trying to convince them that if they smoke Marlboro then they too can feel like a cowboy. Well, no, voting for Democrats and supporting liberal causes will not make you feel like a celebrity, you won’t be invited to their parties, the Grammys, or on next season’s Dancing With The Stars.

Spending years trying to make it in entertainment has given some of these stars a very high threshold of pain, but sooner or later you’d think they get tired of losing.
