Last Week Tonight host John Oliver highlighted the most outrageous portions of last week’s Democratic National Convention, and used the event as another excuse to bash Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
Joe Biden was called “America’s motivational cattle prod;” Tim Kaine was described as a “human sweater vest,” and “basically the portrait of a vice president that came with the frame,” while Hillary’s speech was boiled down to, “I’m going to micro-manage the s**t out of this office.”
But Oliver declared “the emotional highlight of the convention,” to be the speech from Khizr Khan, the father of a fallen Muslim-American soldier.
He said Khan’s speech “engendered in me a level of emotion that I did not think was possible after 16 months of this depressing campaign and 39 years on earth as a British person.”
Oliver argued that although Trump has said thousands of crazy things without consequence, his response to the Khans stood out.
“Honestly, the main takeaway from these two weeks is that we may be on the brink of electing such a damaged, sociopathic narcissist, that the simple presidential duty of comforting the families of fallen soldiers may actually be beyond his capabilities,” he concluded.
