African Americans voters have been the backbone of the Democratic Party for decades, giving upwards of 90 percent of their vote in three of the last four elections. Yet some high profile #BlackLivesMatter activists are saying enough is enough.

Hawk Newsome, an activist from the Bronx, New York has unveiled a campaign aimed at getting Democrats and Republicans to pay attention called “I Ain’t Voting.”

“Black Americans have a chance right now collectively to say to the Democrats,” said Newsome in a statement on Monday. “‘Hey, if you don’t give us criminal justice reform, we’ll give the country to Donald Trump.’ That’ll send the Democrats into a frenzy. Black lives will matter then, I guarantee you.”

The campaign is to inform black Americans that their vote is too important to be ignored and to be owned by one party.

“I Ain’t Voting” also released a list of demands to the Democratic National Committee including better representation in state, local and national elections; criminal justice reform; and less demands from corporations on black candidates.

Often times black votes aren’t campaigned enough for by Republicans because they’re so heavily entrenched with the Democrats, but nonetheless, African Americans represent a greater population in most swing states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, and Michigan.
