A majority of Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t willing to give up their dreams of a democratic socialist revolution — they want the Vermont Senator to run as an independent for the White House.
The YouGov/Economist poll released Monday showed 52 percent of Sanders supporters want him to abandon the Democratic party and run as an independent.
Sanders’ millennial voters still are his most diehard group of supporters with 65 percent saying that the Vermont Senator should run third party. Only 24 percent believe he should endorse Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
While being the most outspoken, millennials are not alone. A plurality, if not majority, of Sanders supporters at every age would rather have the Vermont Senator run third party than endorse the former first lady.
If he had no choice of running third party, only 38 percent of his supporters want him to back the Democratic nominee while 24 percent do not believe he should support Clinton, no matter the circumstances.
Either way, they’re in it until the convention: 89 percent of Sanders voters want him to stay in until the last delegate is counted.
Despite the lack of attention by the mainstream media, the Democratic party is very much at war with itself.
