Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) guest-starred on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Thursday and addressed the biggest controversy of his campaign: his infamous high heel boots.
Fallon wore a pair of the boots on the show and put his feet on the desk when Rubio first came on set. He asked the senator if he was surprised by the reaction to his shoes.
“I only wear them on weekends, nights mostly,” Rubio said. “Truth is they’re a step up. When I was in college I bought some boots like that and I remember the old foam parties, remember that? You don’t remember that? Alright well I bought some of those and when I left the foam party they were white — the foam washed the dye out of it, so that’s a step up.”
“Have you stopped wearing them?” Fallon asked.
“No, they’re in an undisclosed location but they’ll be used at the appropriate time,” the senator responded.
“Don’t let people bully you, they’re fashion forward. You look cool,” the late night show host continued. “You’re Marco Rubio, you can do whatever you want to do. You’re running for president.”
He continued about how he loved New York City, where the show is taped, because he got engaged there because his wife loved Sleepless in Seattle.
