Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush helped make an Afghanistan veteran’s dream come true Monday when they assisted in his marriage proposal.
A group of veterans and their mothers, whose stories are featured in the book “Unbreakable Bonds: The Mighty Moms and Wounded Warriors of Walter Reed,” were invited to the Bush family’s summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine Monday.
Among those was Specialist Tyler Jeffries.
According to ABC News, Jeffries, 26, couldn’t stop talking about his girlfriend, Lauren Lilly, 24, and how he was planning on asking her to marry him. He told the Bushes that she had tagged along on the trip, but was hanging out in town.
They said, “Get her here now,” Jeffries recalled in an interview with ABC News.
Lilly missed his first few calls, but eventually showed up. Jeffries’ used the excuse of taking pictures to get Lilly to come to the Bushes’ home without ruining the surprise.
Jeffries served in Afghanistan for seven months before he was injured in an explosion on Oct. 6, 2012, losing both his legs. Jeffries met Lilly in North Carolina, where Jeffries settled after finishing rehabilitation.
His adorable proposal was captured on video. Just try not to say, “Awww!”
