Despite his confidence in his campaigning skills and popularity, a new poll found that President Obama wouldn’t win a third term if he ran today.
Obama recently claimed 2016 would be an easy victory for him.
“Under our Constitution, I cannot run again. I can’t run again. I actually think I’m a pretty good President — I think if I ran I could win,” he said during a speech in Ethiopia.
It’s a good thing for him that he can’t put that theory to the test.
According to a Monmouth University poll released Monday morning, just 26 percent of voters want to see the president in office for four more years. A resounding 68 percent of poll respondents said they would vote for someone else.
Even among Democrats his support isn’t strong. About 43 percent would vote for another candidate instead of another Obama term.
At least Obama can probably count some famous athletes among his third term supporters. The San Francisco Giants asked Obama to run again when they visited the White House back in June.
