[WATCH] This flash mob performance of ‘O Holy Night’ is absolutely stunning

Berklee College Holiday Flash Mob

Visitors to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts were treated to an extra special surprise last weekend when a group of students from the Berklee College of Music broke out into an impromptu performance of the classic Christmas carol “O Holy Night.”

It wasn’t just a few random students, either: Partaking in the flash mob were nearly four dozen students on both voice and strings.

The idea for the “XMAS flash mob” came from 25-year-old Berklee grad Evan Chapman, who runs an organization that showcases up-and-coming artists. “I’ve seen a lot of orchestral flash mob videos over the last few months, and I thought, what better way to also incorporate some holiday music?” he told local NPR affiliate WBUR.

Chapman told WBUR that he recalled walking around the MFA a few weeks ago and “was really inspired by the Shapiro Family Courtyard” where the performance was held. While the MFA quickly agreed to the idea, Chapman’s still shocked by how quickly the video caught on after it went viral Wednesday.

“Yeah, it’s a little surreal to be honest,” he said, “I mean, in the back of my head I think I was hoping it would do this well — but I never thought that it would.”

Watch the breathtaking performance below.
