The host of The Daily Show lit into President Barack Obama during Monday night’s episode, mocking the commander-in-chief for always being out of the loop, specifically in regard to the failed launch of the Obamacare website. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told CNN the President was unaware of the problems prior to Oct. 1.
“You didn’t know there would be problems until the day it launched?” Stewart exclaimed. “This is your signature program! Your name is on it!”
The host said it was “concerning” that the President didn’t know what was going on with the Affordable Care Act. But Stewart cut the President some slack, since he apparently isn’t kept informed about a lot, including spying the United States had been doing on foreign leaders for at least five years.
“So for five years, I assume the President is being presented with the findings from this world leader monitoring,” the host said. “And in those five years, it never occurred to him to say, ‘Uh, how are we getting this?’ Does the President believe in surveillance fairies?”
Stewart consulted Senior White House Correspondent Jessica Williams to learn more about why the president knows so little. Williams was able to finally clear things up for Stewart, explaining that no one tells Obama the negative things that have happened during his time in office.
“You have to understand the president is a very sensitive man,” Williams said. “He doesn’t handle bad news well. He’s a crier.”
