Now wait a minute, everybody. Monday also marked the 90th birthday of former GOP presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan. To celebrate, the folks at the Bipartisan Policy Center wrangled up a whole lot of Dole’s friends to wish the elder statesman a happy one.
Former Transportation Sec. Ray LaHood sang for Dole, while journalist Katie Couric gushed over him. “I can’t believe it,” she cooed. “You are one of my favorite people in the world, not only to talk to, but to interview.”
Other Washington well-wishers included House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., journalists Howard Fineman, Andrea Mitchell and Mike Allen, with many, many more.
On Twitter, Bret Baier and George Stephanopoulos also reached out.
The Bipartisan Policy Center, where Dole does some work, asked folks to tweet birthday greetings to the retired senator or pictures of themselves with chocolate milkshakes–a Bob Dole favorite.
