‘Duck Dynasty’ star: We did build Duck Commander

Phil Robertson Duck DynastyLooks like there’s definitely one business in the United States that Obama can’t take credit for building!

“Duck Dynasty” star and Duck Commander founder Phil Robertson told host Lara Spencer that the company had been created “with no government assistance” during an interview on Good Morning America Tuesday.

“We did build it,” the A&E reality show star added.

One of his sons, Willie, currently runs the multimillion dollar family business. The show details the daily lives of the extended Robertson clan, from their quirky adventures to the employees’ apparent lack of a work ethic and the family’s weekly dinners.

“Duck Dynasty” just completed its third season on A&E, and is the network’s most successful show ever. In fact, the ratings for last month’s season finale drew a record 9.6 million viewers and was the highest-rated show on both broadcast and cable TV that night, easily beating Fox’s “American Idol.”

The Robertson patriarch was on GMA to discuss his new book, “Happy, Happy, Happy.”

  1. How does this qualify as politics? Who cares that a small business owner built his business by himself? I also started a small business… If I happen to breach the rating criteria one day with some poorly conceived reality tv show based on my operations would I then also qualify to be the subject matter of a “article” on a “Political Website” like this… As we teeter perched on the brink of war with Syria your journalistic subject matter is lacking and reactionary even in these dire times that provide no shortage of interesting and important topics, you chose to talk about a reality tv star. In the future take this word of advice from an avid reader of political prognostication , if your Bio is longer than your article it’s probably not worth printing and therefore reading. Logic will prevail.

    1. John says:

Sounds like someone has a bad case of the nasty envies.

Maybe if you weren’t so abrasive you might get a TV show someday…..NOT

    2. Mike Harrington says:

Did your small company turn into a billion dollar company? No? Then thats why you werent interviewed. It actually took them years to get on tv. They use to put out vhs tapes in the 90s I think.

      1. Justin says:

80’s. I’ve watched their videos for a long time and they still make them. Great people and a great American success story. They were very successful long before this show ever came about.

    3. BK says:

Wow Adam, I’m glad I don’t live every moment of my life ‘”teetering on the brink”! With so much in the news about doom and gloom, i’m glad there are a few items that can bring some positive light to my day…

    4. Justin says:

Why do people always complain about articles they don’t have to read? Click the button and go on to the next web page. That is all

    5. Francesca Chambers Francesca Chambers says:

      Hi Adam,

Thank you for your comment. I wanted to personally take a moment to clarify that we don’t just cover politics. We also cover political entertainment, breaking news and a whole host of other issues on our online only publication. We would have just called our publication Red Alert when we launched it but that was already trademarked, hence the addition of the word politics, which is what we mainly cover.

I hope you will continue to read our politics articles. I would encourage you not to read our political entertainment articles if that’s not a topic that interests you.

    6. Melodie Tolle says:

Lighten up!! Have you ever stopped to think why Duck Dynasty is so popular? Maybe it is because we are sick and tired of the doom, gloom and immorality that regular TV shows like to shove down our throats!!! This is a refreshing show that makes people smile and count their blessings. I for one am glad to see a successful business that was built on hard-work, ethics and the belief that God gets the glory for all things, big and small!! :)

    7. Faith says:

Maybe you could read Phil’s book and get yourself some “happy, happy happy”, Adam. :)

    8. Merry says:

The men of Duck Dynasty are witty and educated and self-reliant, and they do not whine, unlike you, Adam. You don’t strike me as someone people would want to spend 5 minutes with, let alone a whole show. I’m with Melodie. Lighten up. The Robertsons are true role models, unlike most of the trash paraded endlessly around as “entertainers.”

  2. MeMikeT says:

Qualify as politics? That’s just it, it don’t. It is an ‘in your face’ to the political correct crowd with the ultimate of un-political correct shooting guns. In the face of political correctness with family getting together at meals. And in the face of political correctness with prayers thanking God.

  3. AmyB says:

Hysterical much? First, we are not on the brink of war with Syria. Therefore, the rest of your post is without merit. Secondly, there are a lot of small business owners (like myself) who feel the same way Mr, Robertson does, and appreciate someone with more publicity than us speaking out about it.
Your own post is more reactionary that the article you’re complaining about. Complain in some other neoconservative war-mongering echo chamber. I’m sure you can find lots of them.

    1. JeremyT says:

We are definitely on the brink of war with Syria. There are reports of use of chemical/biological weapons by their government on the rebel forces.

      1. bellus says:

Mr o is ignoring that red line.

  4. Nate says:

I like when people say an article is not worth the time to read then proceed to spend time writing a reason why it is not worth anyone’s time.

  5. Buffoon says:

To those not understanding what this has to do with politics.
Just look up Obama’s remark “they didn’t build that” Then you will see why what Phil said is a snarky political jab.
    Long live DD

  6. shannonlee says:

Why should we focus on killing thousands and thousands of lives in a war of man, when we could try to save all those lives in the Holy War for God? I’ll be on God’s side, Thank you!!

  7. Dr. Pedro Perezgrovas Garza says:

Mr. Phil Robertson. To know you, has been a terrific blessing; to hear where did you came from, inspiring. You are an example of the Lord’s Spirit working on men and, certainly, an example for myself. THANK YOU.
By the way, we hope that the terrible voice that they give you in the translation (Spanish al least) can be supressed and we will be able to hear your real voice, perhaps with subtitles. Bless your whole family.
    Dr. Perezgrovas Gyn/Ob.
