Actor Jay Mohr calls for repeal of Second Amendment following Boston Marathon bombings

Jay MohrAccording to actor Jay Mohr, the right to bear arms – as guaranteed to us in the Second Amendment – “lends itself to the CULTURE of violence we are living in.”

That’s what the “Jerry Maguire” actor said on Twitter yesterday, as he called for a repeal of the Second Amendment shortly after two bombs exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring more than 150 others.

Mohr then clarified his original tweet minutes later, arguing that the Americans have become too desensitized to violence and that we’re too used to seeing violence on TV these days. Perhaps he’s familiar with the testimony given by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ to the House Ways and Means Committee last week, as she just she made that same claim!

Naturally, gun rights supporters weren’t too pleased with his comments. So much so that Mohr basically told them to f*!@ off:

At least he did finally admit that the Second Amendment wasn’t responsible for Monday’s bombings!

Stick to what you know, playing someone else possibly with a little common sense. Live in your little world of electric gates and stone fences with security. We the people are made of stronger stuff and will not give up gun rights. We choose not to be victims for we will never get guns from criminals. Why not ban cars as some die in wrecks? Idiot. Better to be silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

    1. bill van auken says:

Well Said! I was just thinking we should ban bombs because if we did than there would of never been a bombing in BOSTON! I was just thinking if we ban knives, than there would definitely be no more stabbbings! Wait a minute Lets Ban Bridges because people tend to jump off of them! Do you see how Stupid you sound Jay? Maybe you should Research Australia and Check out how the banning of Guns Actually increased the Crime Rate involving Guns because the Criminals knew it was open season on defenseless Citizens! Smart People learn from their own mistakes, Wise People Learn from others mistakes!!! Lets not Repeat the Mistakes of Austrailia and BE WISE!!!!

  2. Bo says:

Dam, I should have just read a little further and I find another idiotic moron. This is getting worse by the moment. He is about as good of actor as he is a thinker. He should only be allowed to do voice overs for cartoons.

  3. CH says:

How about this, Jay – you call out your own industry for glorifying violence in movies & video games which have helped to de-sensitize us, then I will listen to you.

  4. NotBuyingIt says:

Jay writes, “The 2nd Amendment lends itself to the CULTURE of violence we are living in. Stop blowing up my timeline w your gun/porn fetishes.” This “CULTURE of violence” has nothing to do with the 2nd amendment. This culture of violence is a recent phenomenon starting with the riots of the late 1960′s… The “CULTURE of violence” is rooted in urban areas and is glorified in the hip hop community and those. Get your head out of your ass Jay…

  5. sj says:

Wow, you play “stupid & airhead” in the movies….your brain been fried by too much stupid?? Old chinese proverb: best to keep your mouth shut and let people wonder if your an idiot, than to open it and confirm their suspicions.

  6. TxGCB says:

You are out of your mind, if you have one. You can give up your rights and move to Cuba with the rest of your leftist buddies. The culture of violence comes from this President and his constant political pandering and the company of actors that produce violence on a daily basis and then wonder where the ideas come from.

  7. RKae says:

Here’s my confusion with the left:

When Muslims blow things up, the left tells us, “Well, we riled them. We’re bad. The terrorists have a point, and we should dialogue with them.”

But they think TEA Party people are WORSE than terrorists. (Of course, the TEA Party doesn’t perpetrate violence, but the left is ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN it’ll happen any day now.) And won’t abolishing the 2nd Amendment rile the right-wing terrorists that they imagine are out there?

I guess what I’m saying is: if America’s bad when we rile Muslims, why wouldn’t it be bad to rile “white, gun-toting Bible-thumpers”?

  8. Insumner says:

I call for Jay Mohr to shut his mouth and stick to acting.

    1. Quigster says:

Let’s ask him to do something he is capable of. Telling him to stick to acting is like telling all those who get booted early from American Idol to stick to singing. Neither is capable of doing it so they should both quit.

  9. Dan says:

Guns, didn’t do it Jay, people did it! So should we repeal PEOPLE as well?

And wow Jay… Did the F*#koff remark require a script or was that an original thought? So how many films or tv characters did you play “Jay” whereas the GUNS that were used or helped depict violence also helped you to propel your career and others? Your industry brings to the big screen violence, horror, disasters and death… Makes you and the others like you a bunch of $$$, doesn’t it?…

Give it up Jay, It may not be your Constitution, but it damn sure is mine!…

And Jay, your next film should be called “Sheeples Among Us, The Jay Mohr Story”!…

    1. John says:

Well said anyone will to give of Freedom for Security deserves neither, this Man is obviously not an American and knows nothing about Freedom but of course he is rich and sheltered so he is really out of touch with real Americans who have to scrape by daily in a world where the Government is constantly over taxing us and trying to take away all our freedoms. When will they leave us alone and leave our Constitution alone?

  10. CAT SCARBROUGH says:

I WILL KEEP MY SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS THANK YOU VERY MUCH,,THE EVIL THAT MEN DO WILL ALWAYS BE HERE..AND AS LONG IT IS,,UNTIL MY DYING BREATH I WILL PROTECT MY COUNTRY,FAMILY AND MYSELF…..THANK YOU,,CAT SCARBROUGH

  11. Anthony Finney says:

Hey, Jay. I’m a fan. Of the 2nd Amendment and my CONSTITUTION. While I understand that it must be easier for you to live in your gated community type subdivision with paid security and ID’d visitors and such, the majority of the population lives quite differently. We don’t audition for the next role on a TV SitCom or silver screen flick at 2pm in a closed session with more guards at the front doors; we don’t have the ability to hide from would-be thugs looking to rob our homes, harm our family, or steal our right to live; and we live in a place called the real world. Where we have to do our shopping at the local Wal-Mart or Food Lion, not a high end store where there is MORE security than you could shake a stick at. See the theme?!? YOU live in a very secure world due to your wealth. WE live in suburbia and the ghetto and EveryTownVille. No one but law enforcement to help us, and in my case of my hometown of 20,000; there are only 40 police officers TOPS! Less than that at this time I believe, due to some tax shortages. But at 40:20,000 thats a real ratio of 1:500. Very few afford security gates at their drive-ways, NO gated subdivisions with security present ID’ing visitors, even fewer actual security cameras, and damn sure no dream world that my gun is a danger to anyone who is NOT presenting a danger to me and my family. Just because you disagree with the bombing performed by a few (yet to prove how many or how few were and are involved), does NOT mean that you or the government has the right to revoke my Constitutional freedom to own and carry a gun for my protection. The fact that idiots like you, and the Federal government WANTS my guns is all the more reason I should have the right to have it!!!

For those saying that Hollywood and video games and music cause violence….. don’t be so stupid!! That’s like saying the McDonald’s television ads cause obesity. Violence is caused by people who feel the need to hurt others for some gain, sick comfort, and twisted ideology. If movies and games and music CAUSE violence, then shouldn’t we shut down our military. They TRAIN people how to shoot and how to fight hand-to-hand and kill. Violence cannot be any more caused by video games and movies than pregnancy can be caused by the viewing of pornographic movies!! Stop blaming anything but the actual cause: Lack of parents properly educating and raising their children with morals, and a government health system that no longer assists those with a mental incapacity to not commit such crimes. If the finger pointing is going to keep on, lets at least start pointing it in the right way!!

  12. Laurie says:

Even on Pandora they had weapons. So, since it’s mostly males that perpetrate these crimes, maybe we should eliminate all men. lol dumb.

  13. Patrick May says:

Mr Mohr you really don’t have a clue what’s going on!

  14. Adro says:

Jay I do not like what you had said. How can you defend yourself against terrorists and muggers? With your bare hands? and yes 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with the bombing. I wonder why some people always blame the 2nd Amendment whenever there is a shooting, killing with guns or bombing. I am a PRO 2nd Amendment supporter and I am proud to be one. The truth is one of the culprit why we have violence in this world is because of the violence portrayed in movies and televisions. Do not blame it on the 2nd Amendment, it is just our right to defend ourselves. Can you imagine if muggers and intruders find out that we cannot bear any more weapons? I leave the answer to you.

  15. John says:

You shouldn’t use your celebrity status to push a political agenda. WHy dont we repeal all violent movies? Nothing will be allowed but G rated movies, oh wait you probably don’t posess that much talent? Too bad, let just repeal Hollywood and actors who use their Celebrity status to influence people for their own political beliefs.

  16. John says:

I had a liberal tell me that all the people who seceded because they weren’t happy with the way things were going should all be shot. I mean really? I have had Liberals tell me they don’t care about the Constitution. Sad really that our leadership or as Chris Rock stated Obama our Dad would be ok with us all killing each other. You see this is how Socialism is created you first conquer then divide, and it’s working but he wont win he will be impeached and there will be indictments and many will probably die, most likely more innocent people because the Leadership of this Country has failed to lead and Unite this Country.

So you people who support Barak Obama who has committed Treason against the United States by illegally signing these 23 Executive orders to ban all guns in America, which is High Treason against the United States, you are also in the same category as Barak Obama and are also now a Domestic enemy of the United States.

So let’s talk about some of the other treason committed by the Obama Administration such as violating our 1st Amendment by Barak Obama publicly apologizing to the Muslim community of the world for a video that they claimed was the reason for the Benghazi attacks, which later we learned was actually the anniversary of 911.

Lets not mention the High Treason of the these 23 Executive orders to ban guns. So let’s talk about the treason by the Obama Administration running guns into Syria, not to mention the hundreds of innocent who were murdered as a result, but they care about the children right?

Let’s see committing treason by ousting Omar Kaddafi, assassinating and murdering him, and bypassing Congress to go to war with Libya in the first place. And then there is also the gun running down into Mexico (Fast and Furious) by the Obama Administration.

Even the United States Attorney Eric Holder who is responsible for the cover-up of “fast and Furious who has still gone without facing charges which is the largest cover-up in American history all under the watch of the Obama Administration. But they are really concerned about the children of America right?

So they want us all to believe that the law-abiding American citizens are dangerous and deadly and should be disarmed, because they care about the safety of the children, right? Even with all the mass shootings in this country again perpetrated by those with mental health issues prescribed to antidepressant drugs we still aren’t as violent as the rest of the world.

WE ARE LESS SAFE AS A COUNTRY NOW BECAUSE OF OBAMA’s POLICIES AND GUN CONTROL. BANNING GUNS CREATES VICTIMS ANYONE WITH ANY COMMON SENSE WILL TO DO THE RESEARCH WOULD KNOW THAT? YOU THINK BECAUSE YOUR SOME ACTOR THAT YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT JUAST BECUASE IT IS THE POPULAR THING TO SAY IN HOLLYWOOD.

  17. How in the world did the bombings of yesterday relate to the 2nd Amendment is a real stretch of the imagination. The repeal of anything out of our Constitution is asking for the repeal of all of them.Come on people and get up and get mad and determined to defend the Constitution of the United States.I really like it when Hollywood actors and actresses ,who has their livelihood based on the violence that Hollywood spits out speaks against guns. I believe they are trying to draw attention away from the real source of violence and that is Hollywood. Generations have been brought up on the violence that this very actor portrays in his fantasy world. The government needs to get off of the back of the American citizen and leave the Constitution as it is because we have enough laws already that cannot be or will not be enforced.

  18. John says:

Fact: There have been 22 international drug regulatory warnings issued on psychiatric drugs causing violence, mania, hostility, aggression, psychosis, and other violent type reactions. These warnings have been issued in the United States, European Union, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.
Fact: At least 31 school shootings and/or school-related acts of violence have been committed by those taking or withdrawing from psychiatric drugs resulting in 162 wounded and 72 killed (in other school shootings, information about their drug use was never made public—neither confirming or refuting if they were under the influence of prescribed drugs).
Of the 31 shooters documented to be under the influence of psychiatric drugs, ten were seeing either a psychiatrist or psychologist. (Citizens Commission on Human Rights International, 2013)

  19. John says:

LOOK FOR REAL SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS AND STOP TRASHING OUR CONSTITUTION, IT HAS WORKED FOR 200 YEARS. OTHER COUNTRIES LIKE PEOPLE IN CHINA ONLY DREAM OF LIVING IN A DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC LIKE OURS.

  20. Some cal me.....Tim says:

Okay Mr. Mohr, how about you just going back to singing, dancing and acting for us for money, and keep your opinions to yourself. We don’t really give a rat’s patoot about what you think.
And you can take Jim Carrey with you!

  21. Wrangler says:

That’s the problem with actors, they’re so used to having someone write down what they’re supposed to say amd they’ve gotten so used to someone else doing all the thinking and decision making for them, they can’t do it on their own and sound like idiots when they try

  22. John says:

YOU PROBABLY WONT POST THIS EITHER

I want to really help our law makers and our elected officials that we elected, who work for us, and the public who care so much about saving lives to really look at where the real problems are in this country and where the 10th largest number of deaths lie within this Country, which is suicide. I would like to try to make my argument more clear, and to show that I am trying to relate the 10th leading cause of deaths in America, which are suicides, to the mental health issues this country faces. It is obvious that the mental health issues in this country are tied to the recent and past tragic mass shootings in this country.

So if we get law makers at least try to look at the real underlying issues we are facing in this Country that is destroying our youth and costing so many lives. To get law makers and our elected officials to think about and try to identify the real issues, and start actually helping people instead of having to feel their party is right, and instead of attacking the Freedoms and rights of millions of law abiding citizens 2nd Amendment Rights, blaming them, and using them as scapegoats for a tragedy that has been exploited to do just that.

These gun bills are not going to save lives or keep guns out of the hands of criminals. The Tragedy at Columbine is a perfect example of that. Harris and Klebold violated close to 20 firearms laws while amassing their arsenal of weapons, however the two shotguns and rifles that they used were purchased by a girlfriend who would pass a background check today under these new gun bills. Interestingly enough Harris’ autopsy showed he was on Fluvoxamine.

Fluvoxamine’s primary use is the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Fluvoxamine has been found to be useful in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), and anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders. Fluvoxamine is indicated for children and adolescents with OCD.

Here again another tragedy related to Mental Health issues with one of the perpetrators of this tragedy. If more investigation were performed they would probably find mental health issues ruled both of these young men’s lives. Do you see a trend here? This issue is not with guns it is about the mental health of our society.

The shooter Lanza at Sandy Hook clearly had mental health issues although no one wants to put blame on the pharmaceutical companies who manufacture these drugs, however more people die each year in this country from legally prescribed drugs that from illegal drugs like cocaine and heroin combined.

The shooter Holmes was on antidepressants, which it is a known fact that all psych drugs are known to spark manic episodes in people suffering from mental illness.
Some people blame gun shows for guns getting into the wrong hands, but according to the Department of Justice 2% of guns used by criminal are purchased at gun shows, and most of those were still purchased legally by people who passed background checks.

More children die each year in bicycle accidents than from guns and the “children” who do die from gun violence are up to the age of 20, the majority of these deaths are attributed to gang-violence, which again proves that none of these gun bills will prevent criminals from getting their hands on guns if they want them.

In fact states that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons have lower crime rates than those that don’t. Longer waiting periods by doing things like conducting universal background checks would prevent crime rates is also false. There have been studies regarding federally passed bills from before and after those bills were passed that show there is no correlation between waiting periods and murder and robbery rates.

One of the favorite arguments of gun control proponents is that foreign countries prove that gun control works (false). There is no correlation between gun control laws and murder suicide rates across a wide spectrum of Nations and cultures. In Israel and Switzerland gun licenses are available to all law-abiding adults, as well as conceal carry options. Even Dr. Arthur Kellerman, one of the foremost advocates on gun control, “Switzerland and Israel “have rates of homicide that are low despite rates of home firearm ownership that are at least as high as those in the United States.”

A comparison of crime rates within Europe reveals no correlation between access to guns and crime. The whole premise of this gun control movement and their claims that easy access to guns cause higher crimes is sorely exaggerated and are contradicted by the facts and history. There is no rhyme or reason for these current gun bills trying to be passed accept for an over exaggerated exploitation of a tragedy to once again attack the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding American Citizens of this Country.

I had an anti-gun person the other day tell me what the second Amendment read in the Constitution while they were trying to make a point why we should have gun control. I am still waiting for them to make their point because all they did was talk in circles tell me what the 2nd Amendment said without really ever making a valid point.

More proof that people do not want to look at the facts they just want instant gratification in blaming someone instead of addressing the real issues that we ALL face. Were on a slippery slope of miss-guided blame against millions of law abiding citizens with out ever admitting there are bigger issues here in this Country that people should be trying to make better instead of attacking law-abiding American citizens, so again I ask what are the real motivations here to try and pass gun control?

I challenge all Americans who care about saving lives to seek the TRUTH and the FACTS.

    1. FRANK FIELD says:

I WOULD SAY YOU ARE 900% RIGHT THE OTHER 100% ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. THE POLICY MAKERS SHOULD LEAVE THE GUN LAWS ALONE. AND GET THEIR ACT STREIGHTEND UP.

  23. scott says:

why are we listening to Hollywood anyway ,they have less morality than eanyone i say we get rid of Hollywood.

  24. Matthew Meymann says:

Okay Mr. Mohr you tell me how violence is going to go away if we take the 2nd Amendment away it will not if guns are gone people will just find something else to use open your blind eyes and when you are bleeding on the ground because some has jumped you don’t cry you are asking for it.

  25. Steveinlc says:

Who is this clown? I find most actors are “dumb as rocks” and are out in the field somewhere…

  26. Matthew Meymann says:

Plus the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with the bombings guns was not used dumb Idot

  27. Bruce Hoffer says:

I agree that we as a society are getting more desensitized to violence. We see it all of the time on television, films and generally in big and medium size cities. Fact of life.

  28. Loach says:

Has Been, crying out for attention.

  29. Marc Nyman says:

Why would any one care what Jay Mohr thinks…. He has a job where he pretends to be some one else. He would be so out of touch with grass root America that he could possibly have a clue. He also, because of his profession, would have unlimited access to the media. This is the only platform he could use to gather attention. If this was the topic or theme for a stand up act, he would bomb! No Jay, the 2nd amendment is going to stay. It’s a shame they use the dead bodies of innocent people to drive home their agenda. Why are we not talking about punishment and prison time to detour violence. Obviously the current system isn’t working fellas, and it has nothing to do with the 2nd amendment!

  30. Mike says:

Not only is he a horrible actor he is the village idiot!

  31. AddisonDeWitt says:

He is trying to prop himself up by inserting himself into a national tragedy. His 2 cents aren’t needed at this time.

  32. Chuck says:

Jay, you are entitled to your opinion. My opinion is you have smoked to much weed like the rest of the elitist in Hollywood. I remember an old confusions saying, “He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones.” You guys make movies depicting some of the worst violence everyday, yet you want to do away with our second amendment rights? Yes I saw you kinda retracted your statement and blame it on our culture, once again, who are the ones that make movies depicting the very worst of culture? I’ll make you a deal, you get Hollywood to stop making all that trash and I will give up my guns. Neither one of those have a snowballs chance in hell of being done. Remember my friend, next time you make a million dollars for being in one of those films. YOU are to blame for the ills of society.

  33. chunkdog1 says:

I love the way these failing. ctors come out of the woodwork when there careers are in the toilet.

  34. Curtis says:

Give up your guns, give up your freedom. If you do not want your guns fine, but do not try to take other peoples guns (no I do not own any, but I support the right to own guns) The second amendment falls, then the government will take over, or some other outside country. Keep America free!

    1. Detroitheat says:

As a Patroit I will do my best, to keep America free. Also Curtis buy a gun for youe own peace of mine…..

  35. Nico says:

    Jay Mohr is a Twat

  36. jason says:

Maybe the person in charge of his career is a gun lover….explains a lot

  37. Jon says:

From what it sounds like this guy whoever he was was speaking of violence in today’s society. True i see some of his point but in other cases he doesn’t see the reasons for having guns in the first place. The 2nd amendment was made for one thing and that was for making sure this country didn’t go chaotic and end up as a dictatorship. I support the second amendment. The government is using this “Gun problem” to steer away from having to make a decision about government spending. All in all i will protect the rights of the citizens and protect my nation whether or not President Obama has the god claws.

  38. James says:

What is sad Jay is that anyone who believes they are desensitized to this stuff because of something unrelated needs to get their head examined

  39. Detroitheat says:

Who in the hell is he,i`v never seen him before must be in the daytime soaps.
Regardless he just an ass hole anyway……

  40. Jack says:

    Total idiot

  41. FRANK FIELD says:

THE SECOND AMENDMENT SHOULD STAY GUN RIGHTS SHOULD BE PROTECTED THEY THAT DONT WANT GUNS SHOULD GO AND LEAVE THE U S A AND STAY OUT OF OUR AFFAIRS. THANKS

  42. wizardfitz says:

I don’t recall any gun being involved. what wr must do is outlaw pressure cookers

  43. Allie from Albany says:

Repeal the second ammendment and start all over again. Anyone who wants a gun has to prove they can use one properly and qualify for a licence. Just as we must do for cars.

    1. sda53 says:

Absolutely, and the same for knives, riding lawn mowers. scissors, bow and arrows, sling shots right? No one would buy a gun without learning how to use it safely. It is obvious you grew up with no guns. There are as many of us who have been around and used guns since childhood. Too many of you are terrified of guns but the thing is it is not the gun but the person using it. It is no different than using a chain saw. Read the instruction and understand the equipment before you try to use it. Then use it only in a safe environment. Don’t choose to be a victim or unable to protect your family should the occasion arise. We have jihad and russian soldiers on our soil being given the stockpiled ammo and guns. Our future is uncertain with this administration and the UN breathing down our necks drooling to steal our country out from under us. I am a grandmother and own handguns to have them easily accessible should someone try to break into my home. And yes they are in cases only I can open.
