It’s no secret that Democrats garner the support of the Hollywood elite. But, while liberals may have the sparkle and shine of Tinseltown in their corner, Republicans get the guts and glory of athletics.
The Denver Broncos quarterback donated more than $13,000 to several Republicans, including presidential nominees Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson and also Sen. Richard Lugar (IN).
Nicklaus, who won the Masters six times, has been a long-time supporter of Republicans. The Golden Bear donated a total of $33,420 to the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, former presidential candidates John McCain and Mitt Romney, and Speaker John Boehner, among others.
The Texas Rangers pitcher and current CEO supported a variety of Republican candidates, including former presidential hopefuls John McCain and Mitt Romney. He contributed upwards of $26,000 to the GOP, including the RNC and fellow Texans Randy Weber, Roger Williams and David Dewhurst. Ryan also supported a fellow Ranger — George W. Bush — in his presidential race.
A-Rod donated close to $10,000 to several Republican presidential hopefuls, including John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. The Yankee also gave to Mitt Romney and former President George W. Bush.
Supporting a fellow Texan, the former Cowboys quarterback contributed to former President George W. Bush’s presidential campaign. Aikman gave a total $27,300 to the RNC and Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Mitt Romney.
An ardent supporter of the GOP, Elway’s contributions top close to $100,000. The Broncos vice president and esteemed quarterback supports the GOP both nationally and locally, giving to White House hopefuls Mitt Romney, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. Elway donated to the RNC and National Republican Study Committee, and Colorado politicians Mike Coffman, Joseph Coors and Bob Schaffer.
Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins, donated more than $103,000 to a bevy of candidates. He donated to Virginia Senate candidate George Allen — a visitor to his owner’s box — as well as the Republican Party of Virginia. Additionally, Snyder gave to the NRCC, NRSC, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Rob Portman.
The former Red-Sox-pitcher-turned-video-game-developer contributed to both Scott Brown and John McCain’s campaigns. His GOP donations total $4,700.
A Romney supporter, Welker donated $5,000 to the former Republican presidential nominee. The New England Patriots receiver contributed to the former governor’s PAC.
The famed University of Georgia All-American contributed $500 to the NRCC.
Basketball legend Malone gave $12,000 to the GOP, including the RNC. The former Jazz forward also donated to Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK) and former President George W. Bush.
The Redskins head coach contributed to Colorado Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell and senate candidate Bill Binnie (NH), as well as the Republican Party of Virginia.
