MSNBC’s Chris Matthews says only white people can be racist

Chris MatthewsIt seems like MSNBC’s Chris Matthews talks about racism a lot, but during his show Monday night, the host took it to a whole new level — by attempting to redefine the word altogether.

The ‘Hardball with Chris Matthews‘ host was responding to conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, who had commented on the remarks made by Reverend Dr. Luis Leon at the Obama family’s Easter services.

“Well, actually, Rushbaugh, racism is the belief that one race — whites — should rule all others,” Matthews said. “Get your definition straight.”

But if Matthews actually cracked open a dictionary, he would realize it’s his definition of racism that’s crooked.

Racism: noun

  • the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
  • prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief
