Bloomberg: “I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom”

NYC Mayor Michael BloombergWhen visiting New York City, check your personal freedoms at the door — at least as long as Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in charge.

“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,” he said on Sunday morning.

Bloomberg appeared on NBC‘s ‘Meet the Press,’ where host David Gregory grilled the Mayor about his failed soda ban, something Bloomberg said he would appeal.

“We think the judge was just clearly wrong on this,” the Mayor said. “Our Department of Health has the legal ability to do this.”

He added that they’re “not banning anything,” doubling down on his comments from earlier this month.

Gregory said Bloomberg’s soda ban was really just a “public awareness” campaign and suggested there was a better way to achieve the end results of better health and lower obesity rates.

“You could do ads for education,” the host said. “As the executive of New York City, you are telling people what they can and cannot do. Why is that government’s job to do that?”

Bloomberg countered that they weren’t telling anyone what they can or cannot do with the soda ban. He said there are certain instances where things should be banned or freedoms should be infringed upon — such as drunk driving or taking a gun onto an airplane. But seemingly contradicting his own attempted soda ban, he added that he believes people should have the right to smoke, own a firearm or make their own weight decisions.

“If you want to eat a lot and get fat, you have a right to do it,” he said. “But our job of government is to inform the public.”

Guess the right to “get fat” doesn’t include sodas larger than 16 ounces.

    1. John Smith says:

      Bill Clinton?
Yeah, the same Bill “I did not have sexual relationship with that woman” Clinton. that I who I should listen to.

    2. Bob Baker says:

Bloomberg: “I do think there are certain times “we” should infringe on your freedom”

Bloomberg, unless you represent “US” you have no right whatsoever to say, “we.” You are, after all, our servant, and your direct supervisors answer to us alone.

      1. Phil McMorrow says:

        Right on the money.

      2. Wallace says:

Then Don’t listen and Don’t vote for him. And, Don’t ask the gov or ins co.s to pay your bill when yo fat ads has a heart attack or stroke.

        1. Angela says:

Could you state that in English please?

        2. Billca says:

Why is it that the left-wing useful idiots like Wallace tell us, “If you don’t like abortions, don’t get one”; “if you don’t like gay marriage, don’t have one”… but if we say “If you don’t like guns or ‘assault weapons’, don’t buy one” somehow that isn’t sufficient and they scream we must “ban” them? Why is it WE, the people, must always give up our rights to the power of government regulators? When is the government going to give up some of its powers? (stop laughing).

          1. Angela says:

It’s called learned helplessness. They don’t even know they suffer from it, and expect the rest of us to just ‘go along’ without committing to the absurdity of it all. You can never win with the progressive leftist mindset. They are cowards who enjoy cowardice, pathetic to see this majority in our once free America. The worst is yet to come.

          2. BillCa says:

Angela, that’s probably true for the useful idiots like Wallace. But I sense that behind the many idiots, there are a number of properly placed Alinsky-ites who are shaping the conversation and plotting the next Big Thing™ that will conjure up another boogeyman so allow them to grab more power. This BloomingIdiot mayor, is like Congress, focusing on the small end of the problem. Politicians can only think of three “solutions” to any problem – tax it, prohibit it or throw money at it. And generally, all three solutions are the wrong ones.

          3. Angela says:

Oh absolutely Bill. Wallace is a fine example of the term ‘sheep’. The wolves are the ones setting the tone and pulling the strings. Unfortunately those like Wallace are their biggest supporters and an unwitting enemy to their own constitutional rights. He has a huge wake up call coming to his neck of the woods soon, and no matter how many times he’s warned it won’t make a dent in his hypnotic state, until it happens. That is what you call a sucker..the rest of us will be uncompromising victims of his myopia. Makes me want to just shake him until he wakes up.

          4. Amber Siebenaler says:

Just to comment on the ban guns policy. I am a disabled veteran and I’ll be damned if I can go to some god awful country to help them and be ok to carry a weapon there but because I served and saw some nasty things they(gov) want to keep the 2nd amendment right from me. It’s not the legal owners so much causing street havoc as it is gangs and other low life’s . They the low life’s don’t go through the proper channels. Hell you have to own a gun so you can defend your home from the crazies that don’t give a crap.

          5. BillCa says:

Amber, first and foremost, thank you for serving and may God heal your wounds and bless you for your sacrifice. We are in agreement. This administration has broken almost every promise it made during campaigns, has no fiscal policy, no budget for 4 years, has been caught lying repeatedly to the public, not only about its own misadventures (fast & furious, Benghazi, et al) but lies that are propaganda to mislead the people. At least if Bill Clinton, while our Commander in Briefs, told a lie, he at least knew what the truth was. Today, I’m not so sure if our comrade in chief even knows what the truth is. With all this, it now makes some sense that the gov is finding ways to minimize returning veterans … who have practical combat skills including strategy, tactics and how to operate certain equipment. Some people can see the push coming to shove, perhaps too soon. Keep yer head down, watch out for your own and check your six often.

    3. Angela says:

Unbelievable isn’t it..and these sociopaths were voted into office AND even worse remained there. Why is Bill BJ Clinton even in anyone’s conversation, and yet we stlll have to look to him as an ex president (and pay for his protection) and wifey Hillary, who lied in the face of America about Benghazi. Lord, know wonder we’re in this mess.

      1. Angela says:

        edit: no wonder..oops!

      2. Edward Peterson says:

Playing house with Monica wasn’t the worst. He took a 100K bribe from Dwyane Andreas, CEO of Archer Daniels Midland and 2 weeks later we were forced to fill our gas tanks with 10% crappy ethanol. He took untold millions from Mark Rich, biggest tax cheat ever, in exchange for a pardon, so he could build his library. Rich is richer than ever enjoying his stolen wealth in Israel. Why the democrat party is so in love with Bill, a master of corruption is unfathomable.

        1. Angela says:

I know. as well as a countless number of murders under his belt. Yet we still have to see his ugly mug, and even worse he’s still talking..ugh. Time for him and his to crawl back under the rocks they slithered out of.

    4. gwhh says:

      When bill say that?

      1. Angela says:

August 12, 1993, MTV interview. TELEVISED and recorded!!

    5. Phil McMorrow says:

      Good job with those quortes.

    6. Pottifar says:

      Cite source for comment please.

      1. Pottifar says:

I meant cite source for quote….not comment.

        1. Pottifar says:

The Bill Clinton quotes to be specific.

      2. BillCa says:

I certainly remember Prez Clinton’s initiative in about ’93-94 to strip gun rights from those living in public housing and supporting the idea of warrantless searches. I also recall his “town hall” meeting about it and Clinton saying …
“When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans …… And so a lot of people say there’s too much personal freedom. When personal freedom’s being abused, you have to move to limit it. That’s what we did in the announcement I made last weekend on the public housing projects, about how we’re going to have weapon sweeps and more things like that to try to make people safer in their communities.” (– on MTV 3-22-94 )

And USA Today quoted him on March 11, 1993 saying…
“We can’t be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans.”

  2. Angela says:

Typical Zionist. I just love the fact that he states WE as if he has a superior right to this universe, and the rest of us which he obviously infers as inferior or his subordinates, are incapable of sustaining by way of our own wit and labor. Apparently us, the lesser we, do not have the right to our own freedoms or an ability to choose wisely or even reason. WE and YOUR, the 1% demi gods juxtaposed against the rest. When did these ‘elect’ decide global ownership, and how did we, the majority end up being owned? In time the tables will turn, a Divine Hand will be tapping them on the shoulder just before they implode. As per ‘the one who never inhaled’, his quote is far from surprising. He and the rest of these amoral Bohemian Grovite, CFR, Bilderberg, Committee of 300, Skull and Bonesmen pedophiles have at least one thing in common, narcissistic psychopathy. One fine day their NWO is going to be snatched from their greedy little hands just before it reaches fruition. The Georgia Guidestones are just their sociopathic rumblings born of hubris and corruption; arrogance does not brilliance make. When one keeps his head above the clouds, he loses sight of the very thing supporting him. Without a firm base you have nothing to build upon..and we are not only the groundwork but also the builders. Soon there will be an elitist free for all each vying for the top, and lets face it these folks will kill to attain that earthly throne. Now that’s one war I’d like to watch.

    1. Angela says:

We should infringe on his freedom! Who in the hell do these dictators think they are. First of all not all New Yorkers agree with him, city people are liberal brain washed zombies. They agree with all that crap but not all of us do. Isn’t it time for Bloomberg to retire! Bring back Rudy Guilani!

      1. Angela says:

Hi Angela, I’m Angela too, lol, pleased to meet you and I agree!!

  3. Bobby says:

Do you think you can you can infringe on our Feedom, We have recently won the No Budget, No Pay battle with Obama signing it into law that Congress’ salary will be held in escrow until they pass a budget However, we want to take this battle one step further. Not only should their salary be withheld, it should be cut for each day they don’t do their job. We voted you in office and we the people can vote you out!! I would you should walk on eggs shells. Hold the President to a budget, that is under revenue coming in.Get the money back from Egypt or you may have to cover that from your pocket, you are under a financial Bont and are responcible

  4. Robin says:

    boycott NY

    1. Sikovthiscrap says:

Out of control doesn’t even begin to describe this loon.

  5. Dorothy J Maher says:

Mr.Bloomberg may have an electrolyte imbalance which could have unpredictable cognitive consequences….he is PAINFULLY thin for a man who clearly has the ability to afford to eat and drink healthfully.

Perhaps he is anorexic or bulimic, or, tragically, both. A man his age SHOULD be carrying a bit more weight, in case he should become ill. At his age, being SO thin, may be dangerous. Perhaps he should be forced against his will, but for his own welfare to be hospitalized and assessed for possible eating disorders….

  6. Jack Davies says:

What else would anyone expect from an uber-wealthy politician that bought himself an illegitimate 3rd term in office? Proof that your gov is bought and paid for.

  7. John Reid says:

“When visiting New York City, check your personal freedoms at the door — at least as long as Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in charge.”

Humorous, informative, creative. Well written Ms. Osterman!

  8. billy jack says:

Doomberg is a Statist and a Despot…and he can kiss my a**.

  9. Macdaddie4u2 says:

Recently all these politicians seem to be spouting off… The majority of American people want…. This is what is right … I think they all are becoming delusional
And way out of touch. People need to wake up…. If we give them an inch… They will staking a mile

    1. Macdaddie4u2 says:

Taking a mile…… Dang IPAD and auto suggest and correct…….. Agh

  10. Dan says:

I’m pretty sure this man can be considered a dictator by definition. This man is scary! He should be removed from power immeaditly by the NYPD and thrown in jail for treason.

  11. Dan says:

I’m pretty sure this man can be considered a dictator by definition. This man is scary! He should be removed from power immeaditly.

  12. John Smith says:

The residents of New York City should recall/vote this idiot out of office.
But then again, it is the same state with over 85% voters of Obama, pretty much a Liberal cesspool. Enjoy what you voted for.

    1. MIchael Caudill says:

      Well said!

  13. RayRaySays says:

I do think there are certain times when politician billionaires should be tried for sedition and violation of civil rights…then executed.

  14. James R Colloca says:

I just don’t understand how citizens vote for these individuals, I didn’t vote for Clinton either time or Obama. When you vote for liberals you vote more taxes, more government, less rights. O showed his true colors during the first term, this term could be deadly for America. I can’t vote for Bloomberg, I don’t live in NYC and happy I don’t and I would not vote for any politician who would reduce my Constitutional rights in any way. As for Cuomo he is a targeted politician, next election he must go no matter what office he runs for and I for one will campaign against him, he is indignant, and needs a lesson at the polls. He should be impeached but that process is impossible, anyone who takes an oath of office and doesn’t keep it should be impeached.

  15. swampsniper says:

Tyrants like Bloomberg are the reason the founders decided we would need a constitution and guns.

  16. Tribey says:

What is this guy on? I’m starting to wonder, I mean ok, all these friggin people are at some point in bed with the psychiatric establishment, and by extension, or in some cases directly in bed with big pharma….are they testing the next generation of psych drugs on themselves? I mean really, this guy says some truly ridiculous shot that no one in their right mind would EVER say. Really, think about it, a lot of these politicians are freaking certifiable…there has to be some reason.

  17. Juan Pablo says:

It seems this arrogant fool realizes that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle then for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. He is attempting to create his heaven on earth and is blind to his own astonishing hypocrisy.

  18. OldmanRick says:

Little Napoleon Bloomberg appears to have escaped again from the asylum.

  19. Lloyd Wilson says:

What is this “we” crap! You mean the “democrats”!

  20. sammi jo says:

The Bill of Rights (like the Ten Commandments) is there for a reason. Each one is a common sense guide to living in a relatively happy, peaceful and prosperous society and some need to see it in writing. It only takes one fool to mess it up for the rest of us. Apparently Nanny McB has neither read the Bill of Rights or the Ten Commandments nor can he be accused of having common sense…

  21. Justin says:

As long as Bloomberg is mayor of New York City I will not visit or do any business with any company based out of New York, if people would hit him where it hurts his wallet he may shut his mouth and stop trying to start his own dictatorship. This guy has his own police, buildings, fleets of vehicles, and makes laws that he wants sounds a lot like Iran or any other dictator.

  22. Dave says:

How does he explain the monitoring cups issued to Health Department staff to issue fines based on this “public awareness campaign ” as reported at http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/sip-hits-fan-article-1.1284047

    1. Angela says:

Infringe also means to violate. Maybe Bloomberg should learn to talk less, He sounds more and more like Biden as the months go by. He is his own political enemy, along with being an enemy of the people..Read a book Bloomberg, or pick up a dictionary..or do what potus does, carry a monitor. That way you won’t be so quick to make an ass out of yourself. Time for that wonderful invention called earplugs folks. Lately I wear them like a necklace for the just in case times…like just in case Obama decides to give yet another daily speech. These people appear when you least expect them, planting a garden, the academy awards, late night talk shows, daytime talk shows…anytime they can wedge their big feet into our private lives.

  23. Kathy says:

Your job is NOT to inform us of our fat content your wrong and please look at the definition of the 2nd amendment then look up definition of infringe ! Your a nut case

  24. hal says:

I hope that when an iranian atom bomb hits new york that blomberg and all the liberal idiots, including top idiot[o] are in town!

  25. Jimt71 says:

Bloomberg seriously needs to go. How in hell are soft drink sizes even an issue in this economy? This coming from a man who has no clue how tough it is to live here nowadays. Get over yourself Mike!
