During a discussion with political commentator and author Margaret Hoover about NRA President Wayne LaPierre’s CPAC speech, Morgan claimed to not belong on either side of the political aisle. LaPierre speech touched on protecting Second Amendment rights for women to own and carry guns.
“I agree [LaPierre’s] rhetoric is inflammatory, and sure, he’s talking to you, the liberal media,” Hoover said on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight.”
Morgan rejected the label, stating, “I’m not saying I’m the liberal media. I don’t park myself in liberal or right-wing at all. I can’t even vote for a horse in the race.”
He clearly doesn’t understand that having a political point of view has nothing to do with voting.
Fellow “Piers Morgan Tonight” guest David Bossie, chairman and president of Citizens United, was making the point to Morgan and Hoover that if all guns are banned, then rapists know a woman doesn’t have a gun to protect herself;, but if the Second Amendment stands, then the attacker doesn’t know if the woman has a gun.
“Piers Morgan Tonight” airs on CNN, a network not known for being a bastion of right-wing thought, so it’s fitting that Morgan’s frequent calls for stronger gun control in the United States have found a cozy home.
Morgan went to a range in Katy, Texas in February to shoot a Browning M2 for fun, saying that he did not think anyone should ever want one of those.
Morgan has a platform to openly express his views, but should be wary of the mindset with which his views align so that he doesn’t sound like a liberal who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
