Republicans aren’t bigots or haters or racist, yet they let liberals and the liberal mainstream media bully them into a corner, said Ben Shapiro, Breitbart.com Editor-at-Large. Shapiro spoke on the “Stop THIS: Threats, Harassment, Intimidation, Slander & Bullying from the Obama Administration” panel Thursday afternoon at the 40th Annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
The folks on the Left side of the aisle are always preaching about how tolerant and accepting they are, and are the first ones to go out in full-force whenever an incident of bullying occurs. And in their own eyes, they, of course, are never the bullies.
Brian Brown, President of the National Organization for Marriage, and Hans von Spakovsky, Senior Legal Fellow and Manager of Civil Justice Reform Initiative at the Heritage Foundation joined Shapiro to discuss the out-of-control bullying by liberals. Cleta Mitchell, Partner at Foley & Lardner, LLP moderated the panel.
Shapiro said they only way to break out from that bigot image is to arm ourselves three ways: frame them, frame the narrative and don’t get intimidated.
“What Andrew [Breitbart] used to say, and his father would say is, ‘You have to walk toward the fire’,” Shapiro said. “Cause they’re going to be burning down the house anyway. So walk toward the fire and enjoy it, and break the battle. If you don’t break the battle, they will, and if they break the battle and you run, it’s a recipe for surrender. It’s a recipe for disaster.”
One way the Obama administration fights is by promoting inside people who bring down conservatives publicly, said von Spakovsky. For instance, President Barack Obama is expected to nominate Thomas Perez as the next Secretary of Labor. He recently admitted proudly to being the head of a “cyber gang” in the civil rights division that was committed to bullying conservative government employees. Those conservative employees were then “disciplined or terminated” from their jobs after they were discovered.
“That’s how you are rewarded in this administration for that kind of behavior,” von Spakovsky said.
Shapiro spoke specifically of how the media manipulates viewers’ minds by attacking conservatives and allowing Americans to think they’re only those aforementioned types of people, referring to the recent presidential race.
“There really is a simple truth as to why we lost the 2012 election, and it’s that we got bullied,” Shapiro said. “The media is supposed to be the watchdog here, and the media is the bully.”
Mitchell added, “[The left] will really stop at nothing to try to destroy anyone who dares to weigh into that sphere.”
None of it is objective – unless you’re one of those believers in the BBC – not even the conservative-beloved Fox News. Shapiro pointed out that at least it’s the only news station that is completely honest about their bias, instead putting on a middle-of-the-road face, like CNN.
