This year, Bill O’Reilly decided to host the President of American Atheists, David Silverman on his show Wednesday night to ask him exactly why atheists feel the need to “mess around with Christmas.”
Things got a little heated, up to the point where O’Reilly accused Silverman and his “merry band of fascists” of destroying Christmas grinch-style.
“You’re an atheist, you’re a non-believer and I respect that. That’s fine. I don’t look down on you. I don’t think you’re a pinhead,” O’Reilly said. “But why you messing around with my tradition? Why are you messing around with Christmas? Just leave it alone. Is there a compelling reason for you to mess around with it?”
Silverman quickly rebutted that he was only trying to make sure that the government didn’t show any preference to one religion over another.
But O’Reilly was not about to give up as easy as that. He said Christianity was not a religion, it was a philosophy, and having a Christmas tree is in no way endorsing the methodist religion over the Catholic religion or making a similar
