Tumblr mocks media for obsessing over Petraeus scandal while ignoring Hurricane crisis

A new Tumblr blog popped up over the weekend called, “David Petraeus Affair Photos,” except the pictures show the brutal images of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy instead.

“The Petraeus scandal is dominating the “news” as a real national crisis is being ignored,” wrote the Tumblr owner to an interested commenter.

The Tumblr selects headlines from Petraeus-related stories from across the nation and accompanies them with a photo from the destruction that faces hundreds of thousands of Americans in the Northeast.

“Washington Post Editorial Board: David Petraeus’s affair has damaged the nation,” reads one headline accompanied by a time stamp of  ”2 hours ago.” The photo next to it shows a boy riding his bicycle along a mountain of debris and devastation as if to say that this reality is the real, “2 hours ago,” that the world needs to pay attention to.

As the Petraeus affair story grows more twisted and grimy with each new development and hooks the attention of society with its thrilling scandalous sex-appeal, this Tumblr offers some perspective.

i’ve been saying for weeks now that americans (and the world) need to see PICTURES of the devasation. if photographers can go into war zones, they can certainly make it to new jersey.
why is it that the ‘mainstream media’ is not covering this tragedy, in contrast to their endless, breathless coverage of katrina a few years ago ? hmmmm?
