Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., pivoted from his baseless charges that Mitt Romney doesn’t pay taxes to a new criticism that Mitt Romney is a bad representative of the Mormon religion.
Reid held a conference call ahead of Romney’s upcoming visit to Utah, where Reid said the Republican will meet voters who “understand that he is not the face of Mormonism,” according to theSalt Lake Tribune’s Thomas Burr.
The Nevada Democrat, who is also Mormon, directed reporters to a recent column in The Huffington Post by Gregory Prince. “I agree with [Prince],” Reid told reporters. “He said that Romney has sullied the religion that he, Prince and Romney share,” he explained.
Reid is not up for re-election this year, so he has been a full-time attack dog for President Obama. Reid recently claimed to have a source saying that Romney had not paid any taxes for a decade; he rebuked reporters who asked him to provide evidence for this accusation.
