Madonna just added her voice to the chorus of what had up to now limited to people on the right-wing fringe during a Monday night appearance in Washington, D.C. – namely that Barack Obama is a Muslim.
“Y’all better vote for f**king Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that’s some amazing s**t,” Madonna said. “It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, godd**nit.”
The Obama White House and Obama campaign before it expended considerable effort denying that the President is a Muslim due to a passage in his book “Dreams From My Father” where he discusses his time in an Indonesian Muslim school.
The 2008 Obama campaign’s “Fight the Smears” website even had a section devoted to debunking the notion that Obama ever was a Muslim.
The President addressed his faith this morning during his U.N. speech where he described himself as a Christian.
The singer’s comment could highlight an unwelcome reminder among certain voters who are uncomfortable with his exposure to Islam in his childhood and his connections to Hollywood.
