Joe Biden: I’m a good Vice President

It’s getting more and more difficult to understand why the Obama campaign kept Joe Biden on the presidential ticket  . . . for everyone but Joe Biden.

At an unscheduled stop at Schmidt’s Farmer’s Market and the Good Earth Restaurant just outside of Muscatine, Iowa, the Vice President reportedly told a group of four senior aged women that not only was he a good Vice President, he was also a very ‘effective’ politician.

Speaking of his 2008 run for President, Biden told the ladies, “Well you know what, on the way on the plane, to show you how effective I am, my political guy said I’m glad we’ve got your schedule for just the last time around when I was trying to get the nomination.

“I spent 120 days in Iowa. You saw how effective I am. You know what I mean? But I’m a good Vice President.”

According to reporters who witnessed the comment, one of the ladies told him in response,“You haven’t done too bad.”

Vice President’s do not traditionally have many powers or responsibilities, as enumerated in the Constitution, other than to succeed the President should he become incapacitated.  So, the definition of a ‘good’ or ‘effective’ Vice President is not easy to pinpoint.

That said, I think few people – Republican or Democrat – would expect to open the history books and find Joe “back in chains” Biden being described as either ‘effective’ or a ‘good Vice President.’ Biden can’t seem to attend a campaign event this year without making a gaffe or forgetting where he’s at.  If Biden is really the best Vice President Obama could ask for our country is doomed.
