Former presidential candidate Rick Santorum spoke to a crowded room of tea party patriots and Christian conservatives just outside the RNC convention in Tampa on Wednesday. His speech focused on uniting the Christian base and mobilizing like-minded voters who are socially conservative, to get behind Mitt Romney.
Rick Santorum, who addressed the crowd of nearly 300, said that Romney wouldn’t change his positions on pro-life and pro-family issues. “We are a pro-life party. There is no division. There is no dissension,” said Santorum.
Santorum went on to say, “When I said born and unborn last night, 51 percent of the people didn’t stand up, 95 percent of them stood up… Not one of us who spoke here today has any problem with the platform of this party.”
Santorum also talked about his new organization, Patriot Voices, which was created to encourage people to get involved in this election and also their community and churches. “If government is going to get smaller then we are going to have to get bigger… If government is going to do less, which it must do, then we have to do more. We can in America do the things from the bottom up and do it better then from the government at the top.”
Other social conservatives that took the stage were president of Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, president of American Values, Gary Bauer, candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas, Ted Cruz and founder of Faith and Freedom, Ralph Reed.
